Do you get a lot of "trick-or-treaters"?

We don't celebrate that stuff, and we don't decorate the house. On the night, our house is dark. The other houses on the street ...Some do, and some don't decorate. Same thing at Christmas, we don't celebrate it, so no outdoor lights. There are many non Christians in our area, so obviously they don't light up their homes, or have yard decorations out front. JIM.

As a kid, I lived in a small town in the mountains of Colorado. In the town was a small college. During Halloween it was cold at Halloween. We would hit all of the dorms (3 or 4) for Trick or Treats! Those college kids would get a real kick out of us and would give us lots of candy and fruit, plus the dorms were warm. The college kids would have us come in so they could check out our costumes! They were really great to us... After the dorms we would go out and work the homes in our area and head for home. By then we were freezing cold! But what fond memories I have...

I'm in a family neighborhood and all the homes have 2 and 3 bedrooms. Still, we only get a dozen or so.

My neighbor said the numbers have been low ever since the pandemic, and that a lot of the kids go "trick-or-trunking". That started in 2021, and it's where a bunch of people park in supermarket and school parking lots from about 4pm until 6 and hand out candy from the trunks of their cars. He said these are state-sponsored events and the treat-givers are mostly city and county employees, so he figures they use tax dollars to buy the candy, refreshments, decorations, and gasoline for all the cars.

I've never seen it, so maybe they just did trick-or-trunks for a couple years. I just think parents do Halloween differently these days because they're afraid. (thanks to media hype)

My neighborhood has changed a lot since my kids were that age. Many older people now, and quite a few families with other traditions as we got more diverse with time.

There is still a cluster of "big decorators" at the other end of the block, but not so many kids coming through these days. Part of that is probably paranoia by parents, part cultural aging with fewer kids around.

I live in kind of a cul de sac, mostly military retirees, so no -- there just ain't a lot of kids. I buy too much candy and try to give as much away as I can before 9 PM. You'd think with that reputation (the kids do talk about this, right?), I'd be bombarded -- but no.

I think it's mostly true about Covid and that entire mass of stupidity we went through 3-4 years ago. I think if somebody showed up dressed as Anthony Fauci, I'd probably squirt him with a squirt gun or, better yet, with a garden hose. And then tell him to get his "treat" from Fauci.

We live in a rural forest, and haven't had a "trick or treater" stop by in 5 or 6 years. The neighbors up the road had a couple of school age children, so we would get some candy for them. Now that they are grown, Halloween is a 'non event" in our area. If someone moves into this area with children, I would just give them a couple of quarters should they come by.

Since I moved in my new house - none. My neighborhood now is 2 miles outside the main part of the village. Likely only a few kid in the neighborhood go out and I don't encourage any trick-or-treaters by turning on lights or giving any other indication I am giving away tooth rotting, and artery clogging treats.

I think many families now get together and have a party for their kids. That way they can have fun and treats in a controlled situation, and not subjected to the hazards of running around in the streets after dark or getting tainted candy.

Unfortunately we don’t get a lot of trick or treaters. We live in a very rural area. The closest houses to us are very far away so it’s not very favourable for trick or treaters. I’d love to get a lot of trick or treaters. When I was younger and living with my parents, we got a lot of kids coming to our house. My parents were giving out treats from late afternoon until about 9:00. They gave treats out generously too.

At our former house we'd see several hundred ghosts, goblins and other costumed critters each Halloween. It was great fun. :) We would go out and buy LOTS of treats in anticipation of the event. Somehow - mysteriously - some of those treats would disappear before Halloween. I can't imagine why. :unsure:šŸ„¹šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

Back then, I weighed 70 pounds more than I do now. Could be a connection . . . :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

No, and I'm glad. I hate Halloween. Cheesy black and orange, costumes, horror films on TV, sugar highs for the little ones, I can't wait til it's over.

The kids here don't come out on their own..they're always accompanied by adults....
