Do You Go To A Podiatrist?

I had my toe nails cut and trimmed today by my friendly Podiatrist. This is a task that I don't dare do myself lest I cut my toes and bleed to death.:D

Yes, I do. I have a toenail on my right big tail that insists becoming in grown every time it grows back, so it needs to be treated professionally. I know that there is a surgery that can be done to permanently remove the nail, but I haven't got to the point where I am willing to go through that. Besides, 10 minutes of having Doc fix me up is fine by me. He's a really nice man and is always asking about police work. He's really into crime shows on TV. His work on me takes about 8-10 minutes, but then we will sit and talk about crimes for maybe another 20 minutes.

This is actually the doctor ?? And...he takes his time?.....H's a keeper.

Many years ago I injured both big toes when a heavy piece of lumber fell right across base of nails. Nails were removed at that time, weren't supposed to grow back but did, one deformed & the other thick & ingrown. Took care of them fine myself till just the last couple of years, can't bend around any more due to L hip replacement & hardware in R hip due to fx femur.
So I've had to go to a Pod for a couple of years & I don't know about yours but the ones I've seen are all Looney Tunes! In addition to being ham handed some are just plain wierd. The first one did the nail ok but mumbled to himself the whole time. The 2nd one was ok for a couple of visits then turned me over to an aide who scraped the skin raw with her grinder. The next one's office had such bad access I thought I was going to break whatever bones I had left trying to get in & out, then he left the bad nail so sharp it literally sliced a hole in my sick on the way home.
Not going back to the one I saw Mon. She did the nail ok but got snippy when I made it clear I wasn't going to buy into the "diabetic shoes & sox" scam because my feet are fine except for the one nail and a bit of an arch problem on the left foot. This is what she did to try fix the arch problem WITHOUT ASKING ME started ripping into the insole of my practically new left shoe, took the shoe out of the room, brought it back with something stuffed under the insole & told me it was an insert and would be $10. Dropped the shoe on the floor & left the room. Leaving me stunned & speechless. Tried walking around on it today & this aft have to find a way to dig out whatever she stuffed in there.
I won't go to a nail salon because they can be so unsanitary. & now I have 2 months to find another one.
& the "diabetic products industry scam" that the Pods are into up to their eyeballs is a whole another topic I'll write about sometime soon.

I can still reach my own but it's not easy. I don't drive anymore and walking is a problem with my last knee mess, but I'll go when I can't anymore. I have a friend who has a person come to her every 6 weeks or so, she can spend the money for that...I'd like that.

I only went once for an ingrown big toe nail that caused a cyst. I can go for nail trimming due to Diabetes but I can cut my own nails so I do not bother.

Same here. My nail always grows back and I am good for a year or more before he has to cut it out again. My doc went to my college and worked in the Hospital where my uncle works and where I got plenty of stitches from sports and tough neighborhood.

I've been going to the same nail place for at least 7 years and they are very clean and sanitary. A nurse I know recommended it to me.

I suffered with ingrown toenails for years but never went to the doctor for it. They were so bad that I had to sleep on my side because the weight of the sheets on my toes left me seeing Stars. Don't ask me why I didn't do anything about it. When the doctor saw it he said, Wow did your stand this for so long? I didn't really have an answer for him. He said I can cut them out but they're just going to grow back and give you trouble again. But I have a permanent solution I can remove the toenails all together. I said what's the downside of that? He said there is no downside. So I said go for it. The only painful part was when he injected my toes with Novocaine. When he did that I thought I was going to wet my pants. Well that was about 10 years ago and my toes are probably a little more sensitive to being stepped on but I don't regret it at all.

It's work but I do my own. I bought a cheap rotary tool and put a small sanding accessory on to grind any thick nails-very carefully. I then shower finish by rinsing feet with old dish detergent bottle squirting the feet with bleach and water. Keeps things under control.

I go to the podiatrist sometime because I buy the podiatrist tools mostly from the online stores and do it by myself.

.

No problem cutting my own nails.

The only time I had a problem with my feet was many years ago when my heels began to hurt for no obvious reason.

I did some research and diagnosed myself = plantar fasciitis.

I switched to only wearing shoes without backs, like mules, and the problem went away and never returned.
