Yes we have an attic. High ceiling so easy to stand up and walk around and hubs laid a solid floor base up there and installed lighting ...it's full of stuff we thought we'd need one day...errrrm!! 
No basement in this house although lots of houses particularly in London have them...but I do have a basement in my house overseas...it's called an Underbuild there, probably akin to you folk's crawlspace ( which houses don't have in the uk...)...it's got a 1/2 size door on it and it's under the rear tiled porch , we can go in fairly easily but we have to be on our knees to get stuff in and out!!
