As for pay phones....I cannot remember using one except in a few times in airports and once when I was trying to find out if my dad had passed away. I was driving from Memphis to St. Louis in the middle of the night, my sister had called me at home, to tell me our dad had a heart attack and was in an ambulance. I stopped once after driving about 2 hours to call my sister at the hospital and check...unfortunately, he had died! This was before most people had cell phones...In my case, the phone spends 99.9 % of it's lifetime in my shirt pocket. Fell out a few times but the edge protector saved the day. Rare that anyone calls me and even rarer that I call someone else.
Think back - - - How often did you pull over and use a pay phone? Some of we old-timers actually survived for many years without phones glued to our ears. Amazing how we did (survive) now that you look back in time.
Not a good memory...
