Do You Have A Living Will?

A jolly good idea, you should make your wishes quite clear if you have no wish to be resuscitated if that should ever be necessary to save your life.

We both have them, don't want to stay alive for years in a hospital somewhere hooked up to a machine if I'm brain-dead for example.

I have made a Living Will with lawyer and myself. I have also donated my body to U of Alabama and am to be cremated by them when
needed (I hope to have used up all parts of my body by then). They will in turn send my ashes to my daughter. I carry the card in my wallet of whom to notify @ UA. My children understand all of this and will abide by my wishes. The price of having UA take care of this is $800 and I paid up front with all the paperwork with my
living will hanging on the refridge. Lord, I plan on going out of this world still controlling!

That is a very interesting arrangement...new to me. Good for you! :)

Having worked in hospital settings for many years, the sad truth is that even when a person writes Advanced Directives & they are supposedly put on the record, often they can't be found when needed, & know of situations where patients or families are pressured to give DNR orders a la "you don't want to be hooked up to tubes, do you? " & shame them into agreeing.
DAMN RIGHT I WANT TO BE HOOKED UP TO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP LIVING!
A sad story here in ABQ about a man who knew he had a terminal illness & with his family's agreement signed a contract to have his remains donated to UNM medical school when he passed, & his cremains would be returned to his family. There wasn't any fee involved, like in Charlotta situation
Well, sadly, when he did pass, UNM already had as many bodies as they could handle for the time period, & wouldn't take him, & his family had no $ to pay for his final needs. Finally, a tv station got involved, & he was taken care of with dignity by a private funeral home.

DH had a DNR order, and I told the staff the afternoon he was admitted. They said they had to see and copy the actual document so the day after the accident I took it to the hospital with me. It became a part of his records. He coded more times than I can remember and nobody said a word to me. Two days before he died when they were going to start dialysis, I mentioned it to the kidney specialist, who was surprised! He checked. Sure enough. It was buried at the bottom of a mountain of papers. He'd have been spared a lot of suffering if anybody had paid attention. Naïve me, had I known that it was being ignored...

Got the whole package: living will, prepaid funeral, coffin picked out with my burial outfit (sweat shirt, pants and socks, no footwear) stored at the home. Maybe should have DNR tattooed on my forehead just to be extra prepared if I hit those hospital doors on a gurney.

Have a living will, absolutely no funeral, body will be cremated within 24 hours and ashes in a gallon size freezer plastic bag.:)))
The ashes will be put in (now this is a secret) a small dug out(moat like) around the grave stone of my wife and daughter.
This grave site was originally for me and the wife but daughter died 4 years ago and I put her in there with her Mother.
So those 2 need to move over cause Im coming in there too.
:D

Yes. I don't plan on burdening my family. I have donated my remains to Univ of Alabama and paid the fee. I have a problem though. I am going to relocate to be near my daughter. She has my only grandchildren and I want to see them grow up. They live in a suburb of Charlotte, NC. I want to live in an apartment that has retired residents with eating establishments close by. My adorable 7 year old grandson is hot on the trail to find me one near where they live (Waxhaw). I will leave it up to my family to carry through.

I need to get busy on this, I have the paperwork but I can't for the life of me, literally, figure out who to put as the designated individual that will take care of insuring that my wishes are carried out.

unfortunately a living will is not binding by law if you have living relations who make a different choice and they have the power of attorney. I personally do not want to be unconcious hooked to a machine with no possibility of coming back to the living..Let me GO.
