Do you have a rocking chair?

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
My recliner rocks when it's not reclined, and I have a beat up old rattan chair in the patio that rocks and swivels. There's something very comforting about rocking. I think a bed with a gentle rocking motion would be nice.

I heard a story about a guy who was asked what he was going to do when he retired. He said he had a rocking chair on the front porch and he was going to just sit in it for 3 months. And then he was going to start rocking real slow.

We each have a Lazyboy rocker / recliner in our upstairs living room. There definitely IS something very soothing about rocking. Babies have rocking cradles as well as rocking carriages. Downstairs in our basement we have a handmade rocking chair made from wood. IMG_9304.jpeg

This is the mahogany rocking chair in the master bedroom that I no longer use. My son bought it for me as a birthday present, then put it together with his own hands. It broke, my husband fixed it but I haven't used it since.

I bought this rocker-recliner decades ago and rarely used it at first, except to rock my small grandchildren. Now it is what I sleep in, since I can no longer sleep in beds. It is slightly wider than the average recliner and has storage under the arm rests.

I don't have a rocking chair and most likely never will. The reason is because of a dear lady I knew when she was quite elderly many years ago. She said "No rocking chair for me, Katie... once you sit in that thing at my age, you never get out again." Kind of stuck with me... she was a very active old gal. (y)

I have two, the oldest one belonged to my Grandma & she used it when she sewed & crochets. It has to be over 100 yo now. I need to have it upholstered due to the fabric age, but the cats are quite happy with it.

The other rocker my hubby & I bought right after we were married while we were in the Ohio Amish country. It's made out of bent hickory wood & the slats are walnut. We also have a matching footstool with it.

I imaging the rocking motion is better than sitting still and probably better than those devices that do the rocking for you. I have a couple that rock a little with effort but are hardly worth it.
