Do you have a smart watch?

I'd like to get a watch with two features: it tells the time, and has an emergency alert button (in case of falls, etc.) I don't need all the other bells and whistles they advertise with these watches. Does anyone have a nice, simple watch, not too big, that does those two things reliably?

I think that to have a smartwatch that is smart enough to have the emergency alert function, it is probably going to have other bells and whistles as well.
And with something as important as having an emergency alert, you do not want to cut corners and buy a cheap one, because your life could very well depend on that watch functioning properly in an emergency.
Any Apple Watch newer than a Series 4 will have both fall detection and an emergency alert, so you do not need a brand new one with all of the latest functions, and it will still be a high quality device.

Apple Watch has bunches of different watch faces that you can choose from (and even add a picture from your photos if you want that), so you can have the clock face either analog or digital, and with any size and other information available from the watch face.
I like being able to check my heart rate; but some people add weather, or other alerts that are important to them.

Also, since it is a phone, and has Siri, you can call for help on the phone if you need help but it is not an emergency. I was out in the back yard and needed my husband to come and help me, but he was doing something out front and could not hear me when I hollered his name. We both had our watches on, and I just asked Siri to call him and he answered and came right out to help me.
So, even in a non-emergency situation , an Apple Watch is great to have !
Hope this helps, @Sunny !

Don't just look at the equipment cost itself. Almost anything is going to have a monthly fee associated.

There may still be wrist devices sold that "tether" to a phone, but if you want fall detection or "press for help" you'll probably need a full-blown "phone watch." Otherwise you need a specialty device bundled with a dedicated monthly fee.

So a fee-based dedicated service or (additional?) cell phone agreement/2nd device add-on.

I don't know much more, maybe somebody has actual experience? It does sound like Samsung, Apple, Google Pixel might be the top brands to research though.

But things like this exist as well:
