Okay, I don't get out much, but I was a little taken aback when I saw this ad for a Burberry men's t-shirt. My first wife (may she Rest in Peace) had a couple of pieces of Burberry, and I vaguely recall being in a Burberry shop somewhere in London about 25 years ago. Don't remember if she bought anything then or not,

Well I just think that is just nuts. My husband and I never spent that kind of money on clothes. I will admit spent more money on the son's clothes for high school.

I also spent a lot of money on clothes for the hubby after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. It was so hard him going thru chemo, losing his hair.
He deserved to have the best clothes for work.

Don't get me wrong, like nice things but my son and hub were the priority. as Hubs died 12 years ago, son is thru college, married, one child and has bought his first home.

Meanwhile, I am still here in our paid off home, driving an 2008 paid off car. I still do not own a designer handbag and never will. I am the black sheep of appearance in the family.

They all think I am poor, that I struggle to pay the bills. The truth is I have plenty of money, I just choose not to spend it on stupid things to impress others. I prefer to cook at home, not go out to eat. Why pay 25/30 for a steak when can cook just as good meal at home for 7/8 bucks.

I keep a well stocked pantry and freezers. Everything is purchased at the lowest sale prices. The son knows he can come shop at Mom's store if they need help.

Quit spending your hard earned money on stupid stuff. make a plan and stick to it. If you can do that the worry bout the future will fade away!!
 
Actually I do have a Burberry purse purchased from the thrift shop. Did not realize at the time that it was Burberry.....and you know what....it still is in the closet unused cause it is so small I cannot fit what I need in there.

Also have a few Christmas items from Harrods given as a gift....now who puts lime green balls on a Christmas tree.

First...I fit everything necessary into the back pocket of my Levi's so no purse, Burberry or otherwise, is needed!

Next, lime green ornaments. That was the gift from Harrods? My best guess is that they must have been given as a re-gift because the giver wouldn't have lime green ornaments, either:LOL:

Nope, not a re-gift, a cousin visits her daughter for Christmas in London every year. And every year she comes back after New Years with a gift for me from Harrods. Methinks a drastically reduced after the holiday item. They say don't look a gift horse in the mouth but geezzzz
 
Good Lord, you girls are so picky!! I am sitting here ina pair of underpants that have a hole in the right butt cheek area. Yes, they will go into the trash tomorrow. I don't have an early morning date with George Clooney or Brad Pitt. The dogs don't care when they see the hole, so I don't care. have not scared any living thing with my butt!!

I have to ask...........Where do you find a steak for $7 ??? That tastes any good ? JImB.
 
I live in sweatpants and t-shirts. Dressing up is putting on a pair of jeans and I don't do that very often. I am trying to remember the last time I bought a new article of clothing and nothing comes to mind. I do know it wouldn't have been anything pricey because I don't have expensive taste. Not too long ago, my daughter was over for a visit and she was chilly. My house is cooler than hers. I gave her a dark pink sweatshirt with a zippered collar and applique flowers to put on. She was amazed that I have had this pink sweatshirt since before she was born (she will be 30 on her next birthday). "It looks like new!" she said, sounding quite amazed. My response, "I take care of my stuff." I still have a pair of jeans from my 20s. I can't fit it into them anymore, but I keep them because you never know, maybe someday. LOL
 
Personally I think most Burberry is ugly. Remember those scarves from 20+ years ago? You can still buy one, for a few hundred dollars.

A while ago, dear @horseless carriage mentioned £750 socks. I was thinking about that yesterday, and realized my entire wardrobe didn't cost that much. I have 3 pairs of Crocs sandals that cost about $50 each. (Never worn. Don't ask.) Every other item (including silver jewelry) was either free or cost between $2 and $25, new or used.

Yes, I checked.

Forty years ago, a coworker said she was given a $50 gift certificate for Holt Renfrew in Toronto. She went, and nothing in the store was that cheap. Just as she was leaving, she saw a clearance bin and managed to buy a wallet for $50.

It's just a different world.
