My dad and Father in law both saved change from the places they've been during the war. They gave us their collections , now we have a small cigar box size of foreign coins . I think they're worth more in sentimental value than actual value. Once,a seller from E Bay sent me a refund ....
in Euros ! Lotta good that did me . Once in a while ,I'll get handed a peso . I'm always getting Canadian coins when I get change - they always slip through ! Today - I was amazed at the coin I got - it was from Argentina ! The size and shape are really close to our penny. It 's fun to see what odd coin gets through.

By the way ,Talking about our money ~~~~ what did you think of those Gold Dollar Coins we had way back ?

or ...The new paper money with the colors ( is it a $5?) always makes me think someone spilled juice on it !

I have some Euros somewhere, I also have some English notes, but I doubt if they count as foreign!

I have used USD, mainly in PXs. I found them a bit confusing as they are too much alike. I don't suppose it would be a problem if I had been brought up with them.

The great advantage of USD is that they are pretty universally accepted.

I have a small sack, Crown Royal, of coins from around the world that various people in the family brought home from military duty in WWI, WWII, etc...

The only modern coins that I have are from Canada and the Dominican Republic, the coin counting machine at the bank won't accept them.

I do not like the changes to our currency and coins. Having said that I do think that it is time to drop the penny and add a $500.00 and $1,000.00 bill to the currency in circulation.

I have a few coins from France, Belgium and England. I took them to a numistmatist. He said there was nothing exceptional about
them. He said that he has a cigar box full of Spanish dubloons that nobody wants.

I have a 10 and a 20 Drachma notes from Greece, some Pesadas from Spain, a Canadian $2 bill, plus an assortment of coins in the "funny money" jar that sits by the TV.
There are probably others.

I rarely use cash anymore, just when I go for a haircut.

.

The most exotic foreign money I have are Russian empire and USSR gold coins,
a copper coin from the reign of Catherine the Great [Empress of Russia], some
Third Reich coins and an ancient Roman coin with an image of Emperor Constantine.

I have some Deutsche marks and some Italian lira and some pre-Euro Vatican City lira that I brought back from when we were stationed overseas. Not much just odds and ends. I also have some WWII Reichsmarks. Probably have some other stashed here and there also.
