Do you have any petty dislikes?

Overuse of the word unique, such as very unique, somewhat unique, mostly unique, etc. This is done all the time in print and spoken. Something may be very unusual, somewhat unusual, mostly unusual, but something is either unique or it isn't! There is no qualifying it. I guess people think that using unique is more impressive than using unusual.

Like being pregnant, right? Either you are or you aren't. Qualifying the word 'unique' is common, also confusing the words 'bring' and 'take', and 'further' and 'farther'. And when pronouncing 'often' the 't' is silent. I don't like or dislike these things, I know what is meant, just taught otherwise.

Help me out here! I am truly not sure what's right and what's wrong. The word "into" seems to have been totally forgotten. In the past I always put things "into" a bag, but every book I read, every show I watch, people put things "in" a bag! Have I been wrong all these years?

Maybe by saying 'in a bag' people are just simplifying and avoiding redundancy and extra syllables. I think I prefer 'in a bag'.

I googled it, Old Salt, looks like you were dead-on right :)
When you use in, you're indicating position. Her phone was in her pocket. When you use into in a sentence, you're indicating movement; an action is happening. She stuffed her phone into her backpack.Sep 9, 2013

“In to” or “Into”? - Quick and Dirty Tips

Well I like, get a like, bit like, out of sorts like, with people who like, say like, every other like, word!
That's true for many young people, especially in California! (so I hear) We elders abuse "so" by starting our tales. So, I went to the market to get some eggs. So, when I got up this morning. So, I had a visit by my daughter!

I don't mind, just an observation that older people have their peculiarities as well when it comes to speech patterns.

Another thing that's changed for convenience's sake. The use of "that"! "I know that I put my glasses on the table" now it is "I know I put my glasses on the table!" I am so used to the old way of doing things that I automatically add the "that" in the books I read! :)

I still have my tree 🎄 up but no one can see it unless they come inside my apt. Don't tell anyone...
😂
OK. I’ll pretend that I’m not surprised if I pop into your place. I’ll forgive you if you supply some Christmas shortbread cookies. I can be bought. 😂

Re: Petty dislikes

If they are petty, why mention them?
Because not all of us are self-contained and, just for something to do, we publicly like and dislike, we praise, we condemn, we like to share our lives, our triumphs and our failures. We are simply enjoying the day in the company of fellow seniors! If it weren't for us "petty folks" this forum would be silent!

That's the question that bothers me every time (that) I come upon it! It stops me cold, but I always have a preference., about half and half.

Only a couple I can think of ...
In youtube videos, the person saying something and finishing with, "so yeah"
Seems those who use "so yeah" do so pretty frequently.
The other thing is I'm always very punctual and dislike sitting and waiting when I arrive at an appointment on time.
... so yeah

To be fair, I don't understand and don't relate to various genres of music. Just because I don't listen to rap, hip-hop, House, or Country music, they are only an annoyance, not a petty dislike.
Slow traffic, especially in the passing lane
Lack of respect and brushoffs
Senior stigma
Being helped too much
Assumptions that are supposed to make life easier
Decisions made without consent

Assuming something about me, acting on your assumption, then getting angry when I don't turn out to be what you assumed I was.

How about some communication instead of all the assumptions?
