Do you have trouble eating out?

I've mentioned the trouble I have now cooking for ourselves.

When we go out,, seems what I order just doesn't taste good?
Yesterday I ordered fish & French fries.

Dish of coleslaw,, dressing tasted like water?
Fish & fries were,, greasy,,, seemed tasteless.
Crust on fish,, could remove the fish & not eat crust.

Look over at hubby's empty plate,, he didn't have what I had,,,, he's done.

I get a take home box.
This morning found me feeding the stray cat some fish!

I have eaten out & not bought so much food home.

It seems to me have have to travel further to find less fried food.

I blame the small town restaurants,, that must want to put out poor quality food.
Feed folks,, get them out quickly so next bunch can eat?

I have problems I have to work around. If my hubby is with me we split an order.
He has me order the side, which I usually get a veggie, and let him have the potato
side it comes with. He rarely can eat a full meal portion himself.
I never go alone but when with some one I always choose something that tastes decent
warmed up later as I can't eat full portions. Have to get my money's worth whether I pay or
the other person does.
I love Mexican food and I know which ones now serve bland, too Americanized for what I like
so I avoid those. I am most picky with chain type ones. So many have gone downhill in the
quality and flavor of their dishes.

Eating out is often disappointing. Some places that were once good now coast on their reputation but no longer live up to it. For the prices I'm expected to pay, I want good food. Granted, taste is subjective; what tastes good to me might not taste good to you.

When trying a restaurant that's new to me, they get one shot. If they blow it, they're out of the game. I'm sick of paying premium prices for mediocre food. When I want a break from cooking but don't feel like going out, thankfully, there are a couple of decent takeout places near me, one Mexican and the other Chinese. The fabulous BBQ restaurant I loved closed because they wanted to concentrate on their business in another location. 😭

I moved here back in January, so I have been checking out different restaurants. I definitely will not eat fried foods, meaning deep fried.
I have found 1 really good place that has good food at moderate prices. I have also eaten at other restaurants where fried foods rule the day. I can eat that at home. Pick up a box of Mrs. Paul’s fish sticks and boil some Kraft Mac & Cheese and there I go. Dinner is served.

It takes a few tries to find a restaurant that suits a person’s taste and pocketbook.

I have to avoid going to restaurants because of the huge amount of calories, it seems like just giant portions of fat and carbs (and meat too I guess). The last time I tried a local restaurant they were having a special for chili with cornbread. It turned out it was chili without beans so it was a bowl of ground beef, tomato-y sauce and tons of oil (cheese on top). The cornbread was okay but really sweet.

Other than that, I have tried the fresh but pre-made meals at Wegman's if there is a special occasion that I'm willing to splurge on calories, they have a lot of tasty healthy yet satisfying choices. The meal prices are as high as restaurant prices (sans tips).

But if you want some super good restaurant meals I'd recommend holiday packages, I really enjoyed the offerings at the restaurants on the Norwegian Cruise to the Greek Islands I went on in 2024, and there were a few spectacularly memorable meals during the Vacations By Rail trip I took in Italy earlier this year.

I eat too slow. When I go out with people, I always seem to be the one last finishing up, and many times I don't eat all of it, but I never take anything home. I just have a thing about saving anything that's left. It's the same at home. If I prepare a lunch and hold part of it aside first, then I can eat that part later with no problem, but if I've started eating from a plate and don't finish it, I have a mental block about keeping what's left for later.

I almost never eat out. The last time was almost 4 years ago in Albuquerque. It was a family owned Mexican restaurant that accepted cash only. It was reasonably priced and it was damn good. My mother, stepfather and myself cleaned our plates and were very satisfied (y)

Mom and I used to eat out at least once a week - usually Saturday afternoon and I never had an issue except for a bloomin' onion that was greasy. At another place, the turkey had a green discoloration on the downward side. The waitress tried to blow that off by saying the green was residue from an inspection stamp. I don't believe poultry is stamped like that.

Now I don't go to restaurants or fast food places. I do my own cooking - at least I have control over the preparation and ingredients, but I have made some pretty distasteful blunders.

I rarely eat out but when I do Ive noticed that a lot of the restaurants around here are now into "gourmet".
I like plain simple food. No secret sauces. No weird spices. I dont want anything "blackened" aka burnt.
And no spicy. Yes I know Im boring. :D

I find sitting alone in a restaurant to be boring so I usually do takeout. I dont mind if they serve larger portions.
I like leftovers. Mostly I eat at home cause truthfully the food is better. :D
And I never eat fast food. I can make better hamburgers at home for way less money.
