Do you have way too much stuff?

Stuff for the kitchen is my weakness. My sister has got to visit and take some dishes, pots and pans. I have way too much. I usually give my stepson stuff but he doesn't really need and or want my stuff. I don't have all that much clothes. I wear what I have.

@hollydolly , I cannot give away my sentimental Christmas decorations. I donate some as I decorate for the season.

No I wouldn't get rid of anything sentimental either..

Nope, nope and nope! I live in a1600 sq ft house and would be happy in a one bedroom 900 sq ft condo. Currently, in bedroom #2, the only furniture is a leather sofa and a chest plus luggage in the closet. Then in bedroom #3, I have a desk holding a printer plus a chair. I like spacious rooms. There is only one TV and it is in the family room.

Absolutely no collections of junk like beanies or whatever and I would be absolutely bored spending any time on Amazon, Ebay, at garage sales or whatever money suckers.

I am getting rid of some pots and pans, etc. that I haven't touched in a year or so. I don't use them like I used to.
This is a great idea! Why do I need all that for one person?
You've motivated me! I'm gonna get rid of 9/10ths of my kitchen crap!

I've asked my kids, "Do you want this antique collection?" "That antique collection?"
They don't want my stuff! They have their own stuff!

Yes, but I got rid of a ton of stuff with my move this past April. I had a 4 bedroom house packed with furniture and a finished attic full of exercise equipment, and a basement full of gardening equipment. I retired and decided to sell the house and move back to my small farm. I needed to scale down to less than 1000 sq ft, in a short amount of time. I have 3 younger sisters, and I was able to rehome a lot. It was painful for me because I loved that stuff, but I had no place to put it. Honestly, I lived alone and owned 4 TV's. I gave away/donated 50% of my clothing, and it was clothes I never wore. It's a weird feeling to walk through their homes and see all my things, but they love everything just like I did. It's been a huge change but I'm not sorry that I did it.

The middle sister loves and cherishes all the stuff that I give her. The oldest sister, not so much. She wrecked my mother's beautiful home. The house was so destroyed that there wasn't much left over that belonged to my mother.

There's a new method for decluttering....you hold the item in your hands and ask yourself, "Does this bring me joy?" If the answer is no, out it goes.

So far, I've gotten rid of the scales, my old girdle, the broccoli, my diet and the vacuum sweeper. Tomorrow, I'm tossing the dishrag, the dustmop, and the bottle of window spray. I think the stove is going, too.
I LOVE YOUR METHOD. 😉😉😉.

My box collection LOL! I flatten and save all those Amazon boxes to use for gifts. And that nice heavyweight avocado box from Costco that I keep for groceries - my wife broke it down and then I glued it back together! I guess boxes are my weakness! Don’t worry I am not a hoarder of all things, and I do recycle some boxes.

We have a bigger problem. Furst, we downsized from two 1800 sq ft homes to one 1400 sq foot home. Most of the stuff was my wife's as it was far better than anything I had.
Now, we are in an 1100 sq foot apartment that we have fully furnished. The problem is what to do with the living room, dining room, and den furniture in our old place.
PLUS 3 storage tubs of stuff my wife moved in with that she has not looked at once.
There are secondhand furniture BUYERS , who will come in and look at your stuff and then make you a CASH OFFER, to buy all of it, and they will remove it with their workers and their truck. Look at Goggle for secondhand furniture buyers in your local area. JImB.

It's not my fault. According to 23 and me it's those pesky Neanderthals who passed their DNA along to me. I'm not joking, my report actually says this:

"You have Neanderthal DNA that may influence your traits: You have one variant associated with having difficulty discarding rarely-used possessions." 😆

I have over 100 souvenir coffee mugs from places I visited. Still have a bunch of VCR tapes, and cassette tapes- (no player). I have tools that I haven't used in 30 years. Every winter, I promise myself, that I'm going to start in the bedroom and clear out stuff. And move to another room, month by month till April, when I get the shed. Well, it's another winter...............I guess I like my stuff too much?

I am a minimalist. About 6 years ago I completely purged my house. I have one room in my house that is completely empty. I have only what I need and absolutely love. It was so freeing. I never realized the mental stress clutter and "stuff" had on a person. Once I was done purging it felt like a weight had been lifted. It was joyful really. I do freelance writing and have written several articles on how I did this and how I now live a minimalist life. It seems overwhelming at first but once you start it will motivate you to keep going until you are done.

This is so funny. We spend the first half of our life collecting stuff, and the last half getting rid of stuff. I got rid of 134 vinyl albums, 2 guitars, 3 amps, 4 microphones, books, clothes, and was able to sell a bunch of other stuff in yard sales.

Now the rule is: except for holiday decorations, if it hasn't been used for the last 6 months -- out! Includes clothes we have outgrown and shoes, kitchen stuff unused, etc.

It is such a relief to get rid of this stuff. We have a small home and now it's looking awesome; no clutter and so easy to clean. Kudos to my hubby who has a computer business (just part time, he fixes stuff), and got rid of all the ewaste.

It's so nice, this house now. Pristine.
