Do you have your car radio loud?

Hubby rarely turns his volume down, always the same unless he has a rider.
When I park my car I always turn the volume real low so when I start my car I can hear the motor.

The other day when Hubby left I was outside when he left for work and heard a sound coming from
the engine in his car. He drove off before I could catch him. Sure enough when he pulled in from work
I saw him open the hood, not because he heard a sound but because he smelled an odor. His oil
was extremely low. He is not a mechanic at all, one of those if it starts, I drive, kind of guys.

It made me wonder how many think about how turning the volume up or down can mean
as far as how much it can effect your car repairs in certain cases.

I used to have my car stereo really loud, but not anymore. Over the past year, my mechanic found a couple of things wrong with my car, & told me that I had to have heard certain noises. I told him that I must have had my music too loud. Had he he not found them, bad things would have happened. It really scared me.

I can't remember the last time I used my car radio; I play my music through my phone. But I assume that's what you meant, @IrishEyes (i.e., music).

For me, I usually wait until I am on a main road, or at least out of my building's parking lot, until I turn the volume up. And I, too, like to listen to the engine when first turning it on and getting started.

When I drive more than a couple of hours, usually only when going to see my older daughter and her family, I listen to podcasts instead of music. And also as others have mentioned, when traffic is heavy or I'm in an unfamiliar area I turn all audio off altogether.

I always turn the radio and fan off when listening for problems in the car. If you heard a strange noise due to low oil, that often means you are nearly out of oil! I had this happen after changing oil and the filter gasket was faulty and nearly all the oil leaked out.
of course you would turn the radio and fan off while listening for problems....

I find it difficult to concentrate if I don't have music playing... but I don't have it so loud I can't hear a problem if there is one..

I will turn it up on the interstate highway to drown out the semi trucks when one I dearly love comes on, then turn it back down.
Those semi trucks can drown out a really good dream if you were close enough to an instate highway.
