Do you have your nails professionally done?

I get mine done every 6 to 8 weeks only shaping and colouring, I don't do fake nails unless one of mine breaks just before a special occasion I will use a presson until my nail regrows.

The Salon I go to is reasonable in price, they only charge $40 and that includes a hand massage.
that is cheap Tish... $40 Aus dollars is about £20 sterling... and here the cheapest nail treatment is about £30... and anything up to £70 if we're getting something fancy done. gel's cost about £45 -£50

I've never had a manicure and only painted my nails in my teens. I do paint my toenails in the summer and once had a pedicure but it wasn't enjoyable enough to repeat it.

My dd..has both her finger nails and her toe nails gelled , every 4 weeks... It's not because she has poor natural nails, but it saves her doing it and that she always looks well turned out in her job...

She actually is a qualified Nail technician, when she was at Music college , she learned to be a Nail technician as a side job to earn her money for her fees.. so she's very aware of how Nails are affected or not by Gels etc.

She has been having her nails done like this for at least 15 years..so people who scaremonger about what long term damage gels do to the nails are doing just that..scaremongering. There's no doubt that gels etc damage the surface of the nails.. but the nails which are just keratine recover within a very short time after Gels or Acrylics are removed..

The one thing that I would recommend tho' if someone is having back to back Gels or acrylics , that they wear a sun block on their hands when they're having the work done.. because the ultra violet sun lamp used to set the nails is damaging to the skin..

I get regular pedicures, but I am too rough of my fingernails to get them done. The polish would be chipped in no time. Right now, they are a bit long, so I may trim them back a bit.

I don't get nails or toes done professionally. Not one of my priorities to spend money on for a couple reasons.

I enjoy doing mine by buffing regularly with a suede nail buffer to a slight shine.
I have fragile thin nails, perhaps because I am a natural blonde; my sister has the same issues.
My dermatologist recommended I buff my nails to thicken and strengthen my nails naturally.
I use apricot cream (Sally Hansen) to prevent dry cuticles; keep my nails healthy moisturized with tea tree oil and the apricot cream.

I never use nail polish. I have tried it several times, of course but polish tends to cause both me and my sister's nails to split/peel in layers, due to the drying aspects of nail polish.

hollydolly, your dd nails are gorgeous.

I'm ashamed to say I have been a nail biter from when I was a young girl. My Uncle bought me a manicure set and said he hoped I would soon have beautiful nails; guess it didn't work. I don't bite them down to the core, just trim them so they don't catch on anything. I go to the Podiatrist
every 11 weeks and he does a good job. We were never encouraged by our mother to look after our nails.

No need to be ashamed. I too bit my nails until I was 24-27 or so. Still do every other month or so when things get to be a challenge.

My mother owned a salon when I was growing up, so I had unlimited access to free procedures, including manicures. I preferred to do my own nails and still do. I like the look of natural nails; gel and acrylic nails look just like what they are: artificial.

I've ever been a nail biter but one of my brothers was... and worst of all my Granny..I used to think how bad her nails looked......

My mother never encouraged us to look after ourselves in any way tbh... these were all things I learned myself as I grew to be an adult

My daughter oth, was always encouraged to look nice..even when she went through her Goth period...lol..... she's the least vain person you can meet, but she is beautiful, and she does take care of herself very well... that includes good food,

Never have, never will. I learned how to do my own nails as a teenager. Nothing fancy, just clip, file and use nail hardener and/or pearlescent polish. Besides, I hate the chemical smell of those nail salons. I know this because my husband and I were in N.Y.C. one day for his shopping run (for his store). There was no place around for me to go to the bathroom, so I asked the nail salon lady and she said yes. I had to hold my nose just to walk through the place. I can't imagine sitting in there waiting, then being worked on.

Not anymore. I used to go to the nail salon every 6 weeks. I would get a manicure and pedicure as well as having my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. I stopped going when Covid hit, now I take care of it at home. I like a natural look and concentrate on keeping my nails nicely trimmed and healthy. I use creams to keep my skin elastic and hydrated as I wash my hands a lot and wish for my feet to be very pretty since I wear sandals most of the time.

I had fake nails twice in my life. The first time was a bad job...a few lifted right away and I removed them all.

The second time, they were done by a much better technician and they were beautiful! I kept them for about a year, then grew tired of spending all that money on them.

I loved pearlescent whites and pale, peachy tones. Red, once in a great while.

I had my nails done once — many years ago for New Years Eve. The manicure didn’t last a week because of my lifestyle.

I just checked prices in the town nearest me. Just a basic manicure would be the price of 1-3/4 bags of horse feed or one bag of dog feed. Not doin’ that, nor do I have naturally pretty nails to merit doing them myself🤠

Manicures would be a big waste of money for me, I'm not that vain about that part of my body.

They are a godsend for me because I no longer need to make periodic trips to the podiatrist to have ingrown toenails removed. Also, I’ve gotten too fat to effectively reach my toenails and cut them myself.
