Do you invest in stocks?

Yeah.

Show you my portfolio???
That sounds like something you go to jail for doing.
I have one share of stock in the Empire State Building. And every 3 months I get a big fat share of the rent deposited right into my checking account - 4 cents.

How much profit do you make?
May I see your portfolio?
I had 10,000 share of Amazon before the June 20 for 1 split in 2022. I was thinking of doing a private sale to avoid taxes. If you send me $10,500.00 I can transfer 70 shares to you for the reduced price of $!50.00 a share. If you have friends that want to grab this bargain price let me know.

I notice the market is starting to have some bad days. Perhaps this might be an opportunity to buy lower. Or if we see a solid correction of over 20% perhaps it's an opportunity to buy low. I don't know for certain, and don't believe anybody does know for certain.

I only invest in low-cost index funds, not individual stocks. I am not a good stock picker, and even if I was it would take too much time.

Yes, this seems like a correction. The market has just been going up and up the past few years, so it had to happen eventually. I just talked to my financial advisor last week and he is keeping me in bonds due what he called "upcoming volatility". I'm still 40% invested in equities.

Yes, through mutual funds.

This has been one of those great years, for the market, that feels bad.

I have stayed the course but am squirreling away cash, getting ready to pay some taxes, and settle in for what I fear may be a bumpy ride.

Lots to be thankful for in these uncertain times.

My broker called, said I should stop calling him. 😁
In all seriousness, I never call my broker until I need a bit more cash set aside. He called me because I needed to take a distribution from my mother's inherited IRA, so I asked him if it was time to adjust my portfolio. He is great at what he does and since he gets paid a percentage he has ample incentive to keep my portfolio growing without my interference.

I can’t help but notice the USA Total Stock Index fund is at a record high level.

Where are the doom and gloom crowd? Which is not to say stocks can’t go down and stay down for a long period of time. They can and do. But, the prognosticators predicting financial disaster for investors obviously do not know any more than you and I do. And that is not much.

Very true. The prognosticators all thought the tariffs would drive us into a recession, but they haven't. That said, the stock market isn't the economy. Many can barely afford everyday expenses due to rising prices. What is driving the market upward is mostly solid financial fundamentals and increasing corporate profits. Increasing corporate profits are typically counter to what consumers are spending. I'm sure some companies increased pricing due to expected tariffs and have kept them artificially inflated.

I'm "guilty" of investing in the stock market... have for over 40 years... and I'm happy to see the increases, but the S&P 500 isn't helping everyday people. Therein lies the disconnect.
