Do you keep junk in your car?

In the Rav 4, there's a box of facial tissues and a trash bag on the passenger side floor. The driving space on Rav 4 is cramped and there's nowhere else to put them. My 1957 Buick had a built in tissue dispenser and a place for trash, but apparently Toyota doesn't feel that such things are necessary.

5'11", 170 pounds. Perhaps "cramped" isn't quite accurate . . . maybe "inflexible" would be better. With the moderately sloped dash and every inch of space between the fronts seats taken up, the only place to put anything is on the floor. Toyota doesn't offer any accessories to address this. JMHO.

This is the POV from the drivers seat in my DD's RAV4

of course the drivers side is the opposite to yours...

Interesting topic....
My daughter's car is always a wholly mess, drives me nuts, my car is neat but I am guilty of carrying too many "what if tools"...you know what if I get sick, what if I find a plant I want to dig up and take home, what if my sun shades break etc etc.
Most of these I forget about after a month or so..lol.

In my tool box bag thing in the boot..(trunk)..I have also what if things, in case I break down......which is crazy really because I have full membership of the AA..:D

I remember cars in my youth being much dirtier than now. Cleaning the car meant rooting under the seats for cans and wrappers from days gone by. I have always loved stale cheetos…and often kept an aging bag under the drivers seat. Now I no longer do that. It is clean the car after every outing. Now that said…if a car gets an exterior wash that means someone else payed for it.

No junk in my vehicle, especially food junk. Where I live, bears would smell that out and try to enter the vehicle. My sister learned that years ago while visiting. Kept telling her to remove any food contents from her car. She didn't listen. The bear walked all over her car trying to get in. Even broke off her side mirrors.

My car gets washed at least twice a week. It`s two years old and looks like the day we brought it home. Only thing in there is a grocery bag with several folded grocery bags inside. And a blanket in case of an emergency. When the kids were growing up,I went crazy trying to keep my car clean so now I like to keep it clean.

In the 80s/90s my dog Duke went everywhere with me.Shepard/Husky/Lab mi and he shed horribly. So every Friday I would vacuum it thoroughly. No dogs allowed in my Rav4 now-Gigi,my Pyrenees, sheds too bad and gets so excited that she slobbers everywhere. And my DoxiePoo gets carsick so no way. They only travel in hubby`s truck.

We owned an auto body shop for 34 years and I couldn`t believe the condition some people would bring their vehicles in. No pride whatsoever.

Jumper cables in a little bag are all I have in the trunk. The glove box has registration, owner's manual, ice scraper and gloves, ( like Holly's.)
Nothing anywhere else.

No tools. If I break down my plan is to sit there until some nice man comes along and helps me. It's always worked before!

@hollydolly - thanks for the detail on the MOT. I've lived in states where there was an inspection and like now, in states where there is no inspection.

But even in Arkansas where there is no inspection, I have seen evidence where state troopers will stop a driver and cite him/her for broken/cracked windshields, glass that is too dark (they have a measuring device), license plate lights that are burned out, emissions (saw that especially in Utah), etc. While there may not be an inspection, drivers and owners are not exempted from citations if their equipment is so bad it gets the attention of law enforcement.

I spent almost 15 years in Germany, and I'm familiar with the very stringent TŰV inspection system. Given the relatively small area in which presumably millions of cars have to operate in Germany and in the UK, having such a stringent inspection system is apparently something drivers have to put up with.

I am not convinced that a similar system here in the States would be welcome, and certainly not on the national level. Constitutionally, such a system is prohibited (10th Amendment). New York (a Rust Belt State) is already tougher than I'd like to see it.

Overall, we will find dirtbags, slobs, and irresponsible people doing stupid stuff and we will find that anywhere. There is a point, however, where implementing entire legal systems to address these things is contraindicated, IMHO.

Mostly neat but I keep a spare tire in the "way back" that wont fit in the donut space along with a couple of boxes and bags for groceries, paper towels, water and a whisk broom.

I'm glad I have the AA cover.. because nowadays if I waited for a man to come along and help as they used to years ago..I'm either going to be waiting a verrry long time, cuz men are afraid they're going to be accused of something.... or I'm going to end up with a Killer...

The AA will do just fine..lol

Speaking of flat tires and men who say they don't know how to do that (grrrrrrrr......), don't get me started......
