Do you know anything about witchcraft?

I assume witchcraft or what seems to be witchcraft are recipes that contain various aspects of herbs, fungi, plants, minerals, fire, earth, water, and air. One would need an understanding of science and how the world operates; time, the seasons, astronomy and astrology.

All the above mentioned ingredients that may or may not play a role in witchcraft are available to anyone who has the time and desire to learn or someone who will teach you.

I want to know if there may be a DNA component to witches and witchcraft that sets them apart from the average population?

I don't think DNA plays into it. But I wouldn't even know how to test that. Once, midwives with knowledge of herbs were considered witches just but they were just herbalists.

I worked in a healing arts establishment that sold herbs and crystals and other alternative lifestyle healing implements. I don't know how many times I tried to cure a headache by holding a purple amethyst to my third eye chakra. I ended up taking an aspirin every time.

Witchcraft is a religion. Not just a practice. It would really depend on what you specifically want to know about it.

I wondered how, primarily women, became witches? If witchcraft is a religion then its choice?

I would say because of midwifery. In the 19 and 20th centuries male witchcraft practitioners became more common. Sure witchcraft is a choice. Nobody forces anyone into it but in families where a female herbalist midwife made her living from her skills, she might pass down that knowledge to a daughter. Others might see this as witchcraft but herbs were the only medicines people had at that time. You could do good or ill with them.

When we lived in Cornwall there was a stretch of road that made my wife very uncomfortable, eventually to a point where I would take a five mile detour to avoid it.

She would get a feeling of mortal dread, get icy cold on the hottest afternoon, get covered in Goosebumps.

A local historian later told us that was where they used to burn the witches.

People are not to proceed with the black arts. Any powers recieved from other than through devotion to God are self-deception and not to be followed. We of Earth are ignorant of the forces outside our little realm. Demons may be accidently conjured through the writing of spells or invocations which are not of God or of the Holy Angels. This creation of bringing evilness forward is not to be practiced.
Psychic gifts and what we consider as supernatural powers can be recieved through pure devotion to God.
and,
Be careful of taking on beliefs unless varified by you personally.
Yes, Just bypass the whole witchcraft thing!

Good advice. Wicca is quite simply a way of life..it's one rule is, 'Do as you wish but harm none'. Forget about casting spells, stay away from something you obviously know nothing about.

When you read about what witches did, they advised
people as to which flower, leaf or tree bark when boiled
in water and drunk when cold would cure a sore tummy
or some other problem, they didn't cast spells or suchlike,
those were rumours I suspect, from somebody who had a
grievance.

So modern day witchcraft is being practised by large drug
companies who employ witches, (Scientists, Pharmacists),
to invent cures for any illness.

Mike.

Agreed Mike, but there are little self deluded "covens" that think they have the
mental powers to invoke change and bring forth evil spirits. I'm all for strengthing
the thought in the mind but not using it for ill sought results. hahahaha!

I'm sure, had I lived then, (which I probably did) I would have been burned as a witch
or a courtesan, (which I probably was)

The use of plants and herbs etc. for medicinal purposes developed over many thousands of years, as I'm sure you know.

We all have power within ourselves, can be used for healing or for destructive purposes. Knowing how to use that power has been branded as 'witchcraft' over the ages. It is my opinion that "witches" are no different in any way from the rest of us. Some people self-describe as witches, and practice a religion fashioned after the witchcraft lore. Others insist that they are vampires, and run around wearing black and drinking blood.
Fear of that which is different helps keep the mystique alive.

I've had a tiny history with the occult, so when you say, "witchcraft" you really have to define what you mean. There's Wicca,, and all kinds of offshoots , and of course the classic movie witches. There's white magic, black magic, all kinds of African cults, and practices, Iron Age types, Medieval types.
Mike, to me, you seem to be describing "folk doctors- ones who use their knowledge of the body, plants. along with spells, incantations, & ceremonies. Maybe after Hollywood, "witchcraft" has a decidedly sinister aspect.
Faintest idea if DNA has anything to do with it. So far the only true genetic trait modern physicians have, is the urge to keep you waiting for a long time, in a tiny room.

I have a friend who is Wiccan, she is also a Naturopath. She maintains that Wiccan‘s prime directive is to cause no harm to anyone. Not only is it against their religion, but anything harmful they do to another rebounds on them threefold. Blessed Be to these warm and loving people who live lives of service to others. We may have different religious/spiritual beliefs, but our commitment to serve is the same. ♥️🙏🌹

So well stated.
Tales are usually told by those with grievances.

My wife has always had a very strong sense of perception, she can see right through a falsehood or dubious tale, it's best to be honest with her. So skilled at perception is she that I dubbed her, "the witch." It was a reputation that she had at work, where she was employed as a paramedic. That reputation was cemented one day when she and her partner were responding to an emergency call.

She was driving the ambulance at high speed, the emergency lights flashing, the sirens wailing. Out of nowhere a sports car, being driven dangerously, overtook the ambulance, cutting back in sharply to avoid the oncoming car. My wife's partner leapt, almost involuntary, but my wife had seen the car in the rear view mirror and suspected what the driver was about to do.

Instead of getting shaken up or angry, she simply said: "A hex on you." Half a mile down the road the ambulance went past the sports car that was now at the side of the road with the front and rear offside tyres punctured. Later, back at the ambulance station, her partner was going on and on about the incident. "Never," he said, "never," he repeated, "ever cross her." From that day on her reputation was sealed.

Wow. Some people just seem to be plugged into a perceptive part of the universe others cannot easily access

I have Healing Hands, at least I can remove pain
and it stays away for several days, does that make
me a Witch?

The last time I used my hands, was on my hairdresser
who was having trouble with her digestive system I
don't touch, but hold my hands at the back and front
of where the problem is, the next time I saw her I asked
if I had helped in any way, she said that she felt a lot better
and that a friend wanted to know what she was taking to
lose the weight!

Mike.

In Salem MA coincidentally the 'witches' property was confiscated. Some males used it as a way to divorce.
When you think about it, that wasn't really that long ago!
And it wasn’t that long ago that they burned witches to a stake. In fact they burned people to a stake who were left handed or had any disorder which they didn’t understand, like mental disorders, epilepsy etc., Does it surprise me that men took advantage of claiming their wife was a witch to get out of a marriage and keep the matrimonial home?
No!

The only real witchcraft is voodoo...you don't want to get near that. Anything else is hocus pokus and if anyone has the power to put a hex on anyone, there would be hexing going on all over the place!

I grew up in the New Forest, a beautiful part of England and only about half an hour's drive from Stonehenge. We used to get the so called witches en route to dance the night away at Stonehenge, most of them were stoned up to the eyeballs :ROFLMAO:

I don’t know about whether you are a warlock, definitely a healer. Does your gift work on animals also? My Wiccan friend told me that there are people in your neck of the woods who are thought to be descendants of Druids. Many

have your gift. She said Scotland, Ireland, and Wales seem to have many such people. Although healing is not generally gender specific, she believes the Druid descendent healers are at least 80% male. Their gift is very strong and often grows more powerful with age.
