Do you know how they choose the homes used in TV movies?

My hubby can sit for hours and watch all those made for TV movies. Usually I fall asleep in my recliner which is a blessing because I can't stand them. If I do stay awake the only thing that interests me are the homes where the movies take place. I like to look at the decor, layout and the landscaping. I once saw an afghan on a sofa just like one I made years ago. I wonder how they decide on the homes they use? Do people own them? Do they get paid for the use of their home. Are the interior shots actually in the home we see or built on a set? Do they decorate the interior for the movie if they are privately owned? I looked online but couldn't find much info. Does anyone know how it is done? Just curious. I hope the new season of TV shows will have something I might like to save my sanity, but I doubt it.

There are people on staff who "scout" for homes (or apartments) to use and then contact owners and negotiate a price to pay for their use. From what I hear, the owners are paid a pretty penny and put up in hotels - for movies and TV scenes. I would imagine confidentiality is a strict condition of the contract.....they don't want people gawking and bothering the actors and other workers. And yes, they do change the interior to suit their needs, then they put it back to the way it was.

A home 3 streets over from me was used for a movie last year - but the story wasn't on the news until after filming was completed.

A neighbor's house was used in the movie "Nights in Rodanthe" based on the Nicholas Sparks book of same name. Mostly interior shots. It was a 2nd home and they loved it. Nice money plus fresh paint and lots of new plants in yard.

A woman I know said her deck and pool area was used extensively for a TV show. I sure hope it wasn't Breaking Bad.

The house used for exteriors (where White family lived) became TOO popular. Address was in the internet, and after the series ended people were throwing pizzas on the roof.....just like Walter White did in the show. Show creator Vince Gilligan issued a public plea for people to stop.

Goofballs.

I was joking, applecruncher. My friend's house is way beyond Walter White's teacher's salary home. I thought it was funny to conjecture on Walter's nasty-looking pool, but she said the show that used her pool area was on HBO.

The great house that was used in Father of the Bride with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton always gets mentioned in people's favorite movie homes. I've read they actually made few changes; it was used pretty much as-is.

Breaking Bad house owner fed up...

A New Mexico woman who owns the famed Breaking Bad house is fed up with people tossing pizzas on her roof.

So to combat the issue she's erecting a six-foot-tall fence around her property.

In “Caballo Sin Nobre,” the third episode of the third season of Breaking Bad, character Walter White flings a pizza on the roof of his home.

It's been seven years since the episode has aired and fans still visit the real-life Albuquerque home - owned by the Quintana family – and fling their own pizzas like a frisbee onto the roof.
