Do you like clubs for older people?

This is a photo of the group that were able to attend the outing at a local farm store in October 2019. It's about half the usual number. Probably the ones babysitting decided it would be too much for them. I also notice, it's mostly women. I think even some of these have passed since the photo was taken.

This age group wouldn't usually want fractious children running around.. there's a time and a place and a seniors club isn't that !!

It's what a lot of us complain about here in the UK.. once upon a time we could as adults have one place where only adults were allowed, and that was the Pub.. people with kids could go to social clubs, restaurants cafes, but Adults had only one place that was sacrosanct to adults.. The pub..

That went out the window when the pubs all changed to be Gastropubs.. essentially restaurants with a bar, and the law said people could take their children in all day long up until 9pm.. so now we go for a quiet lunch with friends. and kids are running around..babies are screaming..
Everywhere caters to families now.. and no thought given to adults only..

I am not a joiner - but I am not alone. I enjoy my hubby's company and am happiest spending time with him. I can understand someone that is living alone might enjoy a club, but why not join a group geared to an activity you are interested in.

Us old farts could get a little boring. :giggle:
..but why does it have to come with an attachment ( rhetoric question).. why not a social club just for adults... people to sit and chat, play board games, hobbies etc.. with their friends..

In Spain and on the continent, they cater very much for older adults.. and even during the day the older folks meet on the plaza or in the town square every morning to sit and have drinks..play chess.. or just chat..

We don't have our towns and suburbs set up like that...

I don't belong to a senior club but I remember my mother did. It was called the Jolly Girls, an apt name for that group. I don't know if they collected dues but I had fun going with them on their bus trips and I was in my 20s at the time. Of course good food was always served at their meetings.

My Gran was the same. She loved her ladies clubs, and she was always going on coach outings with them. She was the group entertainer

Exactly that... this is the same picture played out in my Village in Spain and in all the surrounding Villages..

ETA...looking more closely at that picture that even looks like my village... hmmm.....but it isn't.. we're in the far south , but it shows how it's played out in every town and village in the whole of the country..and it's the same in Italy, and many parts of Greece and Cyprus, and Turkey

Yes, I see your point - they are just not for me. I always thought groups like that were old friends meeting up for coffee - rather than a club open to everyone. I guess my idea of 'club' led me to a different interpretation - something with membership lists and rules.

It's always nice to hear other people's opinions.
