Do You Like SOME Movie Sequels?

Not a black and white question as it totally depends on a specific movie sequel. What one might state is whether one usually enjoys sequels and at that many would state they are more often disappointed and not a few are a total waste of their time.

I can re-watch Road Warrior and have quite a few times in my life.
The LOTR sequels were really just one long movie broken up.
The 2nd Star Wars Movie, Empire Strikes Back, was far better than any of the series.
But usually the sequels suck. Mainly because the original writers, producers who understood the material are replaced due to budget considerations.

Did you know The Magnificent Seven (1960) was based on a 1954 Kurosawa film called The Seven Samurai? It wasn't a sequel, but a western version of the original. Both are excellent films.

Some sequels are great. At least half of the Star Wars sequels were. A couple of the Star Trek ones were, too, but only a couple. Sequels to The Borne Identity and Mission Impossible were all good. Just my opinion, of course.

Can't say the same for the transformer movies. And Godzilla and Superman sequels were very hit-and-miss, but I really liked all the Planet of the Apes films, old and new.

But, most movie sequels should never have been made, or written, or even thought about. Most of them made a ton of profit, though, no matter how bad they were.
 
Did anyone see the parody of the song Ramble On, except it was Rambo On? I can't remember if it was SNL or what. I can't find it on YouTube. "After Rambo 10 we're going to do it again." :D

Sometimes movie remakes also. :rolleyes:
 
Yes I do, very much!

However, some were annoying and never seem to stop. Prime example -- Star Wars. The first 6 were fine, anything afterwards, yuck!

Then, there's sequels you're waiting on and never show up. Grrr Hard! Prime example -- The Percy Jackson films, got "The Lightning Thief" then "Sea of Monsters" and we were expecting "Titan's Curse" which never came. Logan Lerman and the other two actors with him were excellent. Rick Riordan fell out with the film's script writers and now he's made a deal for a TV Series out now on Disney+ but... We were looking forward to more ... Darn gone it!

Last but least, the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". The talks are that very unlikely the remaining films will not be made. Disappointing as Eddie Redmayne is amazing as "Newt Scamander". The pandemic has been blamed for interrupting the flow but I believe it's something else that happened.

We were hoping to see Newt and Tina Goldstein's wedding (sorry romantic at heart here) in the next installment but I guess it's hoping against hope.

Which is why these films series are watched more often than not

And more 🙃
 
Nothing succeeds like success, and if a movie does well in the theater, a sequel is almost inevitable, especially when Hollywood runs out of fresh ideas. Sequels vary widely in quality, some better than the original but others inferior money-grabs. Too often, sequels go farther still, and franchises are generated. Do we really need half a dozen or so movies mining the Rocky character?

I’d love, however, to see this sequel to Bambi, the first movie I ever saw…😺
