Do you like science fiction?

I get book bargains by email daily. I like many genres including science fiction when I am in the mood. I have bought a delightful novel called 'Steel Guardian' ' by Meron Cora. It has really piqued my imagination and reads so easy, simple and heart-warming. About when the world is taken over by AI and it centres around a simple humble cleaner robot called Block. He just loves cleaning and needs to find a new home, as he the hotel he works in is gone. He finds a baby human girl and ends up protecting her from everyone. It is impossible not to like Block and his ingenuity and in fact his humanity, which is very touching.

I just had to tell someone about this book! It's just what I need to take my mind off life's troubles.

I recommend it as good reading and would welcome any recommendations for similar novels about robots.
 

I was a pretty regular reader for a long time. I have a couple of tightly-packed boxes and I think I've read each book at least twice. Kids don't want them but a DIL was into eBay selling for a while. Maybe I'll give the books to them to make a little cash off from. Stuff that doesn't sell can go to a library if they still take such things.

For whatever reason, probably when we had kids, I stopped buying many books. Most of these I have on hand are from the 1970s.

I still like SF movies and TV, especially the "harder" stuff more grounded in reality like "The Expanse."

Thanks for the suggestion though, Rose. It sounds interesting.
 

Have loved Sc-Fi all my life. I was a Trekie from early on, and watched every generation of it, along with Star Wars, and the Twilight Zone. Also many movies over the years: Close Encounters, Contact, Dune, Avatar, The Abyss, The Martian, Men In Black, Back To The Future, and many others.
 
Lifelong SciFi fan, loved the nuclear mutant giant insect movies of the late 50s, totally farcical but fun. Of course, any outer space SciFi movie is a 'must see' for me.
I've read all of Arthur C. Clark's fiction, and a lot of his non-fiction. Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein were great as well. I fell like I've left out a major author, I'm sure I'll recall in a bit.
 
I'm a big SciFi fan! I like it best when it is more scientific as opposed to fantasy. Books,TV shows and films are all great and some of the old, early black & white flicks are just FUN ! My favorite authors include Brian Aldiss, Heinlein, Neal Stephenson and many other.

Douglas Adams? I have all his Hitchhikers Guide novels.

Another favorite of mine is Isaac Azimov for his science fiction and non-fiction. But I'd need a whole room for all the books he's written.
 
One of my favorite films is "Silent Running" with Bruce Dern. There isn't enough story there to be worth many repeated viewings over time, but the spacecraft design was interesting and things like the communications chatter gives me chills. I like the Joan Baez tunes too.

 
I've loved and read SF since I was about 10. And I too read and really liked Steel Guardian; I'm so glad you mentioned it, @Rose65; I kept forgetting to read the 2nd in the series; going to go online and look for it right now, lol.

Some of my favorite SF authors: Jack McDevitt, James Tiptree, Sheri Tepper, Arthur C. Clarke (especially his book Childhood's End--the miniseries was okay but loved the book, I wish so much I could join the Overmind and leave physicality behind!), Stephen Graham Jones (horror rather than SF but so good), Kiersten White, Alma Katsu, Marilyn Messik (hers are paranormal but handled in a matter-of-fact way that reads like SF, very good), and many others.
 
What do you think of robots?

I never gave them any thought until now I am reading this very entertaining novel.
I looked up Robot Sophia on YouTube and was surprised at how advanced she is.
Is a time possible when we might have servant robots to do our menial tasks? Or to work most manual jobs in industry.
Who knows what the future looks like.
 
Always loved SciFi - don't think I even missed a SciFi movie or TV program - and have huge number of SciFi books plus a number of real science books related to those subjects. The original Star Trek is still my favorite.

@Rose65 If you like books with sentient robots, Isaac Asimov would be the one to look up. I loved his books. And I will look up your novel. Sounds great!
