To be honest, I'm not fond of surprise anything. I do realize my friends/family complain I'm 'hard to buy for', which is true. I'm very specific about what I want and don't want, LOL!

OTOH, if you want to surprise me with dinner at The French Laundry or a week-long stay in the Southwest Villa at Hacienda del Sol in Taos, NM......hey, I'm all in on those!

The only "surprise" party I had was one my aunt hosted when I retired. She called me to come to her house on some pretext, but when I saw all the cars parked on her neighbors property, it kinda spoiled the surprise - like I wouldn't see all those cars where there isn't normally isn't any?

I had my "big" birthday party on my 10th birthday, but it was far from a surprise. My mom planned it for weeks in advance and I had to know about it to tell her who to invite.

On second thought, I recall being invited to one of my sister's family dinners. When we arrived, there were balloons and a birthday banner - for me! I'd forgotten all about that. It was quite some time ago.

I never had a surprise birthday party, but I did have a surprise promotion party which was far, far better.
And it was a total surprise.

I'm among those who have never had a birthday party! Suits me just fine, I never liked being the center of attraction. And if it was a surprise party, i'm afraid I might just turn around and leave. How terrible that would be!

I do not like birthday parties in general,,,either attending or those for me. I often think a "surprise" party is most often planned for someone who had already said they did NOT want a party, and the person throwing the party thinks the person wanted one anyway

Only really had one that was an actual surprise.

It was for my long ex-wife. Did not go well, had a friend pick her up for shopping whilst the guests and I got ready. When the friend brought her home she blew up at me for forgetting her birthday, right on the porch where the guest could her the rage. I opened the door and the friend pushed her in, she was really surprised... However I never tried that again.

I absolutely detest having anything with me as the centre of attention. My husband and I had a quiet marriage. A few weeks later we were invited to a party for something. It took me a few days to logic out that it would be for us. I didn’t tell my husband because he abhors anything about him and didn’t enjoy the evening. I never admitted to knowing.
