Do you name your car?

My dad was a power lineman (worked on power poles, not telephone poles) , and the line truck that he always drove was full of noise-making stuff like rolls of wire, transformers, and more, plus all of his linesman tools. I loved going to work with my dad, and back in the 50’s, they allowed me to ride along with him.

I learned how to drive in the line truck.
On country backroads (dirt, with weeds in the middle), my dad showed me how to shift the truck into compound low 4x4, and we crawled on down the road, while I learned to steer and shift that big 1-ton truck.

When I was a teenager, I named his line truck “Elvis” because it would “Shake, Rattle, & Roll”. I think that Daddy didn’t care all that much for Elvis, but he loved his daughter and happily let me name his truck for him.

After my first car (old, black '58 Volkswagen beetle) I had a mid-60s Volvo stationwagen. Bought used of course, private deal in Vancouver. I insisted, before I'd purchase, that the guy selling it had to get the clutch replaced.

It served my purposes, being pretty reliable and lots more spacious than the beetle... could carry more people or more stuff. However, I must say it deserved the name I gave it: "Old Rattler".

A few years later my financial skies had brightened a bit. I sold Rattler and bought a second-hand Datsun pickup in great shape. (Never named it.) I built a wood canopy for it and explored a lot of territory, camping with my girlfriend.

Only three of seven were worthy of nicknames. There was Azee, as it was very economical from A to Z. Blackberry we only had for a year's rental, but an absolute pleasure to drive.

Bluejay was the last one named. It was the last one we owned called a Nissan Bluebird. Sadly, they've stopped making that model. IMHO a huge mistake from Nissan, that car was amazing.

When I grew up we always had old used cars, and in those days cars aged a lot faster than they do today. I can remember Ma saying "Come on, Bessie" a few times trying to coax one into starting.

Does that count?
yes..Bessie was the name of my ex husbands' first van... seems quite a popular name at least back in the day...I wonder why :ROFLMAO:

We named most, but the newest one we haven't. DH decided to stop driving. So we gave the car to our son, and he takes care of us with any driving.

That's cute!
