Do you need to like your doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc you use?

Apart from their services to you, do you need to like your lawyer or doctor, grocer or whomever you use and have dealings with?

I mean, do you like their manners and style or does it matter? For example, I have a lawyer whose work is just okay but I do not
particularly like him and I am not sure if he/she likes me. Would that bother you? What if he or she does not answer your
emails or phone calls (but still does the job) or has other manners you do not like? Would you pay more for someone who
like as a person?

Agreed. Besides which, I find it hard to trust someone I really don't like. Particularly doctors and lawyers -- you are asking them to help you make important life decisions and that's hard if they aren't at least on the same page as you are. With a doctor, though, especially a specialist, if I were faced with the decision between one I didn't care much for but who had great skills vs. one I liked, but wasn't as good, I'd go with the one with the great skills.

It would bother me if I didn't feel a mutual liking for my attorney...I could never be certain he was doing the job with my best interest in mind. Not quite as much with a doctor - it's not as important to me that I like my doc, but it has to come across that the doc genuinely cares about my health and well-being.

As for others I deal with, it's enough if they are pleasant and courteous, but above all, honest.

Definitely with a doctor. Maybe less of an issue with an attourney, but I'd prefer to like my "employees".

You know what they say about neurologists, don't you? What's the difference between a neurologist and God? Answer: God doesn't think he's a neurologist.

I didn't expect my new neurologist to be warm and fuzzy....I don't think they come that way, but he was very distant and unfriendly. Brusque and a "don't bother me" attitude. On the first visit, he asked me, "why exactly are you here?" (and I quote). I understand the question but I think it could have been asked differently.

Second visit, either he has a twin brother who is also a neurologist or he wasn't on his mood-elevator pills the first time, but he was friendly, warm and we sat and told jokes to each other for 10 minutes. 10 MINUTES WITH A SPECIALIST -- WILL WONDERS NEVER CEASE? He actually gave me a "side-hug" when I left. What the hell?

Third visit coming up next month. I'm not sure what to expect. Will he invite me over to his house for Easter dinner or look down his nose at me again?
