Many of my relatives made a five or ten dollar weekly commitment to the local bank in order to pay for Christmas gifts. I never did, but I was close to being a Scrooge...
When I had my paper route, a hundred years ago, I put 25 cents a week into a Christmas club. In November, I would get a check for $12.50. A lot of money for a kid to spend back then.
As she should be in most cases. I had a Sunday route and dragged those big papers around in a wagon. Some Sunday's in the winter were awful to go out in, let alone deliver papers...
I never hear about "Christmas Clubs" anymore but do remember them. I never belonged to one when they were popular. Now Christmas is being with loved ones, not so much attention to gifts.
