Do you or have you gone in the water?

Oceans, ponds, or lakes will be busy with bathers during the summer and it makes me think that other than for cooling off or for exercise it may be for another reason. It could also be some unconscious atavistic behavior...

If you believe in evolution, you believe that we have a comfortable feeling going into water when it is warm enough; kind of like going back to the womb when we go to bed...

But just think of all of those distant relatives that you don't get to commune with...

Actually heading up to the lakes region of NH this weekend and will be in the water. Temps expected to be close to 90° F and the water will be a welcome relief.

I absolutely love the water! Will go swimming any chance I get. Over Memorial Day weekend I went swimming in the Delaware River,Jersey side, with my Daughter and family. Now if I could only find a new bathing suit that would fit my lumpy body I would really be happy.

I get mine from Omar the Tentmaker. I may have to find another place, though, as Omar just started charging by the yard.

I love ocean swimming. They say that the salt content of the ocean is the same as the salt content of human blood. Maybe it's "like calling to like".

I seldom will go into Florida lakes or rivers because of the dangerous amoeba that thrives in warm waters (not to mention the alligators), but if I do, it's never past the shoulders (I won't let the water get in my nose). I do like to swim in the springs, though, as the amoeba doesn't like the cool water.

The only time I swim in North Carolina rivers and streams is when I fall in, which happens more times than I like (moss-covered rocks are usually the culprit). Waaaay too cold to do more than wading.

We lived in Jacksonville for a year. During the summer I was working on a project at work. A engineer came over from the UK to work with us. On the weekend we took him out to the beach. He enjoyed it a great deal. He said it was the first time he had ever gone in the ocean that it was not an ordeal because of the water temperature.

When we first moved to Florida from Michigan, we swam in the ocean year-round. Hell, the ocean water was warmer in January than Lake Huron, Erie or Superior (especially Superior) in August. Now, I'm a big wuss........ I'll swim in the springs (72 degrees year round) or the ocean only when the air temperature is in the "hell" range so that whatever part of me sticks out of the water acts as a heat transfer device.
