Do you own your own blood pressure monitor to use at home? If you do, what brand is it or what type? Are you happy with it and do you feel that you get accurate readings? Did you ever compare it side by side with another monitor or the one in your doctor's office?

Yes, a wrist type made by Omron. Mine is 10 years old, so I doubt if they still have that model. But, it appears to be fairly accurate....as accurate as any(including professional grade upper arm). I've measured my BP with my Omron at home, after coming back from a doctor's office visit. Pretty much in the ballpark, of course you know how BP can vary.

I have an Omron BP760 that uses an arm cuff. I bought it at the local Walmart for around $80.00, without a prescription, not sure if your insurance would cover it as durable medical equipment. It works fine and closely tracks the BP machine that my doctor uses.

I used to check my BP often at random times until my doctor was able to regulate my BP medicine.

With the new medication my BP has been good for the last couple of years and I only check it every few months.

I have had a arm/bicep type that you inflate but have had a Omron self-inflating, wrist one for a while. It is much easier to use and is suppose to be fairly accurate. Being easier to use is a biggie.

On this subject, I think taking readings at roughly the same time of day is a good indication for tracking how you are doing. What I have done when I am tracking things is to use a monthly, flip style calendar and first thing each morning before drinking or eating anything is to weigh in and use the BP monitor. I write down SYS/DIA/PULSE Rate, weight, and time of day on that calendar. It only takes a few minutes but the format of the calendar makes it easier to track and notice changes.

I have just started using a cuff bicep monitor, name on the box is Pro logic

Wasn't sure how often to take my BP or the best time of day but followed the instructions and it seems alright, I was surprised at how the level fluctuates and how quickly it can rise, apparently it's best not to take it after eating, talking, walking or even if you need the loo !

I've been using an Omron Wrist Pressure Monitor for several years. When it was new, I took it to a doctor's appointment and compared readings. They matched. I don't check on a regular basis but if I get that feeling that something just isn't quite right, I'll first check blood pressure and then blood sugar.

We, too, use one of these Omran wrist monitors. We've had it for about 10 years, and it has performed well. It agrees with what we get at the doctors office...within 1%, so that works for us.
