Vermont maple syrup - - -the best, although I'll take a substitute if the real stuff's not available.
We have oatmeal a couple times a weekWhen I make "corn cakes", no syrup, just butter. But regular pancakes? Pour it on!
What Ken said!Do you put syrup on your pancakes?

Never heard of that, but it sounds really good. When we kids pancakes were a favorite day before payday meal.
When we were really broke my mother would serve them with nutmeg sauce made with half brown and half regular granulated syrup.

Hoe cakes were originally corn pone cakes (the simplest form of corn bread consisting of just cornmeal and water) baked on the blade of a hoe over a fire. I'm sure later they came to mean other things.I remember we used to have Vermont syrup in the house. It's been decades since I had that!
@jujube Are corn cakes what James Brown called "hoe cakes"?
