Do you read obituary columns?

I‘ve read them for years and it’s not because I expect to find anyone I know. It’s just out of interest of their deaths but rather of their lives. A friend always did this; ironically, her cheap husband didn’t put in an obit for her. He could afford it.

The price of a newspaper obit is outrageous now so now I often never learn of deaths since I moved away.
Most Canadian funeral homes use online services to post obituaries now. It costs next to nothing, and the notices stay up for as long as the online service allows it.

Yes. I don't live where I grew up but I worked with senior citizens that I knew for many years.
I keep up with whose passing.

Hummmmm….guess it might be kind of weird…but I have always read them. No matter I am in a different state…or planet. I have no expectation to know any of those people…just read them.

I have always been Sports, Music, Jokes & Cartoons. Mom and Dad used to read the obits every day in the daily newspaper.
It was Cartoons and Sports for me. When they listened to the Hog and Cattle prices I was with my lil Transistor radio and
the DJ's of that time frame. Weekends were Nascar and Football / Major League baseball. Later Golf too.

That’s exactly what I do. There can be some interesting stories.

Yes. I look for the obituaries of people I hate so that I can add their names to my "Graves to piss on" list.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, now I live in Pennsylvania, so the people I grew up with aren't in my local newspaper. ( The paper doesn't have home delivery anymore). While there were only 8 guys in my graduating class, it was unsettling to find out 4 have already passed. I'm 78.

Ya know how I answered this thread just a week ago and said I choose to be oblivious and not look at the obits? Can someone give me a good swift boot? Because this morning I was looking at the store sale paper in the e-edition of my paper... and they now have a side column for... yeah, obits. So I'm checking the price of pork chops and there's the name of an old and dear friend in the obits who died this week. 🥺 61 years old!

So THEN I got to reminiscing about Joe. And got to wondering about a mutual friend from the same time period. Looked that person up 'cause I just don't learn... mutual friend also dead. Age *50* and gone for three years. Possibly Covid related. I just wanted to see how much pork chops cost this week. 😔
