Do You Really Want to Know What's Going On With Russia?

I sat and pondered for many minutes and asked myself, "do I post this or not?" "Have I spent far too much time here, pontificating on the crises of the world?" Maybe, maybe not.....but I decided to anyway, because it's our right to know what is being done in our name.

Thanks to SeaBreeze, I came across this article that so clearly articulates what is going on between Russia, the USA, Europe and Ukraine! It is excellent and if you've ever thought about finding out but don't want to spend days and days looking and reading to understand, then this is the single piece to read. It contains some of the very things I've been thinking and there was even a point or two that I hadn't understood but now, I see.

And the author of it, Stephen F. Cohen has a professorship in both Russian Studies and Politics so he's no slouch! Great read!

For additional reading at that site, here's the link to get you started. Their home page doesn't seem to be accessible from the article....unless I'm not noticing the back button.

And here is one more direct link to a story about what the Kiev government is perpetrating (with the encouragement of the American government). The only reason I picked this one specifically is so that the next time you hear some broadcaster extolling the Ukraine governments efforts or talks about the military coming under fire from 'Russian backed terrorists' and you're moved to feel sympathy of any sort for that government, you'll remember this story and think of the Ukrainian people (the terrorists) and their families and relatives are being subjected to by that government.

I just remembered something else I read about these guys who head the military now and are in the Ukraine government. Recently one of the 'generals' made the statement that he would happily cross the Russian border and commence terrorist activities against the population. Sorry, I can't remember where I saw that but if I do, I'll come back here and post the link. This is who the rebels are up against.

And remember this, Crimea rejoined Russia, they've already had some wages and pensions go up, they're shopping in the market where food is available and infrastructure is developing and it's peaceful. And where there is a 'coup-begun' government that is being supported by the West, there is death and violence and fear! Who is doing what wrong?

I managed to struggle through it but it was slow going. So many run on sentences. I had to reread several times.

I came away with the impression that the US should more or less keep our noses out of the Russian - Ukraine politics. It's way too complicated to go over detail by detail here. It's an enlightening article, well worth reading.

I, too, think Putin has been demonized unfairly.

I think you hit the nail on the head Shirley. And my Prime Minister and his cabinet and all the rest of them should do the same.

As for Putin, I agree on that also. This topic has become a bit of a 'hobby' to me so I've read a couple of biographies and a bunch of his speeches and Lavrov's speeches and numerous articles and I don't think he's any of the things that you hear insinuated. Thanks for reading it.

Debby, at night before I go to sleep I tune into this radio show. http://www.coasttocoastam.com/ I started listening to it when Art Bell hosted it many years ago. I was generally interested in alternative health news, environmental topics, privacy, and conspiracy theories, etc. I've never been a news buff and never been politically minded at all, so I'm not knowledgeable about such things, but am slowly learning.

Stephen Cohen was on the other night, but I didn't catch the show. They have had other guests who speak about various wars in the world and US invasions of other countries for oil interests, etc. I think I agree with you and Shirley, we have our troops all over the world and are so interested in interfering with their internal issues, that we seem to be neglecting our own country and its people, both civilian and military. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is how it appears to me from all I've heard, not from the main stream media, but alternative sources.

Well I just finished reading a couple of his articles and found them to be really well written so I'm very grateful you linked that website. I always look for sites where the writers have 'credentials' and aren't just the man on the street (like me). Not that the man on the street can't understand what's going on, but if one is beginning to formulate an opinion or share links to support discussions, I think it's important to have that kind of basis for understanding. And sure, credentialed people can have a different/wrong/biased opinion, but I find if you look long enough and compare between all the writers and correspondents, you eventually get a pretty good grasp on who's out on a limb and who's info is well grounded. So thanks again.

You know the funny thing is, once upon a time I wasn't the least bit interested in news of any sort. Hard enough just getting through the day to day stuff you know, but in the last few years I've developed an insatiable appetite to understand all the forces at work in the world. Sometimes I'm so surprised at myself :). Who woulda thunk it sort of feeling?

Not really because over the years I've worked hard on incorporating the 'it is what it is' way of looking at things. I spent too many of my younger years worrying about things I had no control over to the point where it made my life a kind of joyless wasteland. I think if anything, I'm more PO'd at the buggers who are pulling all the strings who don't really give a rat's behind about what happens to you and me! They pretend to care but I think they just want to keep the masses quiet and calm, so they hand out crumbs and then blow sh** up, with an 'oops' to follow when it turns out they wiped out a village or put toxins in the water or killed the oceans or........I should stop here with this line of thinking or I'll toss the 'it is what it is' philosophy out the window!

The world has always been torn between good and evil forces, to put it simply, and I just feel lucky enough to have gotten this far by the forces of good...

Debby, that does satisfy how you feel about things and wish they were going, but that does not satisfy how another might feel about things and wish they were going. Far too many ways to consider how this world could or should be going.
