I can't . Some people can rattle off dates of things that happened ... like their parent's death and their ages ..... when I moved into my house.... how old my dogs were when they died ...etc. These are just examples . Today my doc asked me a bunch of questions about dates of things .... I couldn't remember. Time just passes me by .. whether it's years or months. I'm so jealous of people that can remember things ! The doc didn't seem too concerned about it , but it bothers me . I can see someone on TV and remember their name an hour later ! *sigh*

Do you have a good memory ? Can you remember details or just general things ? Maybe it's ****GAG**** old age !!:p

It could be signs of dementia. From what I’ve read it’s supposed to be helpful to do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and things that help with memory on a daily bases. Maybe you could see someone else who DOES take your symptoms seriously.
Yes I remember details and dates quite well.
Sorry you are experiencing this. It must be frustrating.

Yes, I can. Always have been able to remember such details, and sometimes it creeps people out.

Names, dates, addresses, phone numbers, even zip codes of places I worked/lived at decades ago.
Teachers, friends in school, co-workers from long ago.
I even know the license plate # of my first car.

However, sometimes I briefly forget simple things - which is one reason I make lists. Or, I might walk into my bathroom and forget what I was going to get from the cabinet, but I'll remember what I need to do in the kitchen.

I've never been good with dates but can memorize other types of numbers. I rarely forget how to spell anything once I've seen it written out, and that includes unusual names, but that's a gift rather than a cultivated skill.

I rarely track the exact date anymore but know the month, season and year. Close enough.

At the start of every year I put all family and friends' birthdays on a new calendar so I don't miss anybody. My sister and I usually compare calendars every couple of months to be sure we have remembered everybody. For the most part I remember everything. The only thing I have a problem with is right after my stroke and I was in a medically induced coma for 6 weeks. A lot of that I don't remember and thats a good thing as I was told I was in horrible pain after the brain surgery. I was very blessed that I was able to go back to my accounting job with no cognitive problems. Except for that I have no problem remembering except sometimes I go to a room and forget what I was going to do, then remember and go about my business.

I’ve not really thought about this before but it’s made me realise my memory isn’t too bad at all, I’m better at remembering addresses and dates then telephone numbers but I have everything written down anyway

I've always had a good memory,can remember family&friends birthdays,anniv etc.
I'm able to recognize TV/movie stars when I see a picture of them, even though they haven't been on TV or in the movies for awhile,it stays with me like a sponge
Its funny, sometimes when I see an ex co-worker at Target/grocery store, they say'Hi Sue',even though they look familiar,I can't remember their name. As soon as they do,something clicks in my brain,it all comes back to me
I've been doing the daily NYTimes cross word puzzle for yrs, usually get Mon&Tues, also like doing wordsearch puzzles Sue

Most of the time, my memory is better than my wife's, when it comes to dates. We were watching a homemade dvd the other night and seen some things that we had done back in 2003, that we both had forgot about, but quickly remembered.

All-in-all, I'm pretty good at remembering things, but also use Sticky-Notes to remind me to do certain things also.

I am known for my memory, among my old elementary school chums. I can recall things about their lives and their family members that they had long forgotten. It weirds people out, so I try to not throw too much at anyone when it comes to memory jogs.

I have an excellent memory for information I desire to recall. To me dates are not important to commit to my memory. I note important dates in my calendar. I do not want to recall the dates I lost pets or loved ones; I want to recall the lovely times.

I have a fair memory for the years long past, but for recent times, not so good. My young wife (she's only 82) far exceeds my abilities to remember dates, events, etc.. That's the benefit of marrying a "younger" woman, takes awhile but pays off in the long run.:D

Terry, you might find it handy to get one of those "perpetual" calendars, to use year after year. They are calendars or books with a page for every month, to write down birthdays, anniversaries, etc., anything that occurs year after year. Much easier than writing all those dates every time. You can always add to the list. I've found them very handy.

Here's one, I'm sure there are lots of others.

I have to wear a name tag pinned to my shirt upside down so that I can read it and remember who I am.
