Do you shop at Walmart?

The greeters at WM are almost always older women. I don’t know how they would handle an obvious theft.
going to accuse honest customers of stealing,
How do they know you’re honest? They should have just asked to see your receipt, which is their right.

There‘re people complaining at several stores now about the audacity of the request for their receipt. It’s one way to maybe stop shoplifting.

We shop there by-weekly, have no choice as they are really the only store left here except a few drug stores and 3 locally owned grocery stores that were bought out last year and are very high in price.

Walmart is cheaper on most items but even Walmart has gotten really high on most items.

No more or less than other stores in general but in my opinion there's not a nickels worth of difference between all the brick and mortar stores these days - pretty much, they all suck in all areas, available products, customer service (or lack of), forcing self check outs and last but not least forcing additional fees to pad the bottom line, for example an additional fee for using a credit card or check as checks are now processed electronically like credit cards. It all comes back to charging the hard working consumer for EVERYTHING! Just my opinion and thought I would share :coffee:. Don...

I take your point. I'm not sure where you live but where I live, good customer service does not include accusing everyone in the store of theft. I've also had friends who worked there who said Walmart will accuse their employees of theft, have them arrested and then "lose the video evidence" and drop the case.

Walmart is just about as dishonest as you can get, which is why I'm irritated that they'd accuse honest people of theft. But if you enjoy the third degree, that's your prerogative.

Used to be my go to, but over the last 5 or so years I have shopped there less and less but stopped for good when a greeter yanked my cart out of my hands as I was leaving and screamed at me to see my receipt. I said no, grabbed my cart and left. If those assholes are going to accuse honest customers of stealing, then it should come as no surprise when honest shoppers go elsewhere.
I agree. Used to shop there all the time but in the last 5 years it's become too "ghetto" for me.

San Jose area with its 2 million + people has 3 Walmart Supercenters and 4 Neighborhood Markets. I rarely visit WSs but regularly visit the NMs. We have a lot of supermarket chains in the valley but I spend most at the WNM. Instead if a product costs more than say $30, use Amazon. As someone not involved in the business world, am not a fan of globalization.

The way Wall Street corporations and their politicians killed smaller retail and small businesses across the nation and with it lots of resident American jobs and manufacturing was sad. But decades later most of the other retail chains have gone so their isn't much choice. Just like Home Depot killed off most hardware chains.

I do my main grocery shop at Walmart Neighborhood Market…there’s no denying that their prices can’t be beat in my neck of the woods…other than, of course, the few items from Aldi that i favor…Aldi prices beat ‘em all when you can find what you’re looking for.

No more often than I absolutely must. We used to go there as often as twice a week. Now we go there maybe every two or three weeks.

Believe it or not, when Walmart first came on the scene way back in the way back, it only sold American-made products. Truth. That fell by the wayside in favor of sourcing cheaper products to sell at cheaper prices. And make more money.

There is a "superstore" that I go to for certain items, in the other direction is a smaller "neighborhood" store" with more convenient parking that I visit sometimes. Publix gets most of my business. Once in a long while I will stop at Winn-Dixie.

I've noticed some posts about Walmart. And for the most part, they are negative. Some of the complaints are a lack of an English speaking clerks, crowds, extremely "odd" customers, self-checkouts, parking lot beggars, feeling unsafe in the parking lot, etc. Of course, these are all complaints and it's easy to complain. You may love Wally World. So, do you shop at Walmart. In the UK, OZ, you must have similar stores? Do you have "Walmarts"?
I shop there, the Walmarts at three locations I've been to have large parking lots I never felt unsafe in, good customer service, pleasant shopping experience, etc. Even on weekends, although they changed to many self service check outs, is very reasonable. No complaints here. Glad I have Walmarts in my area.

Parking-- Usually far from the entrance so that I can not have to back out of a parking space. I like walking so that is a plus.

Safety-- never had a problem so no complaints there.

Pricing-- I look for value & most of Walmart pricing especially on the Equate store brand hits the mark for value.

Courtesy-- At the local Neighborhood market I've shopped there often enough to get smiles & be treated in a good way. The two Big Walmarts near me the greeter smiles coming in & leaving. I show the receipt because I think it's more about a courtesy to the checker recognizing it's not a fun part of their job.

Walmart people. Yeah I see some and wonder what they were thinking. These capture that

Must be many people shopping there as their stock price has been soaring this past year. Up 21.5% Sept. 2022 to Sept. 2023 and up 72.21% in the past 5 years. Stock prices don't do that well without considerable increases in their revenue. You can only shave so much off operational costs.

I may have posted this before but, once a receipt checker asked for my receipt which I gave him, and he started pawing through my bags, touching everything and ended up smashing my bread. I got mad, told him to get his hands off my stuff, grabbed the receipt and left. No one bothered me as I walked out.

But that was a long time ago and they've eased up on their heavy handed attitude at the door. Now I just keep my receipt in my hand as I walk out and they usually just wave me through.

I've shopped there maybe 3 times, possibly 5.

The issue for me was that Walmart came in and undercut local merchants and chains, quickly driving many of them out of business. They also stocked a lot of cheap offshore products, costing even more local and regional jobs. Then along came NAFTA taking away more jobs, and the Walmart link to the Clintons became well known. Walmart became synonymous with the race to the bottom.
Actually I had to google that:
Clinton was a director at Wal-Mart from 1986-1992, a time of rapid growth for the company. From 1986-1991, Wal-Mart created 230,000 jobs, more than any other firm in the country. usatoday.com

Sorta ancient news don't ya think?

No matter, I shop less at Walmart nowadays simply because I don't like to drive 20+ miles roundtrip only to find that they don't have what I could have bought online from the comfort of my home.

No Super Center here.

Groceries are limited to junk food, soda, canned items and basic pantry items, condiments, cereals.
They do sell dairy, eggs, butter and some packaged lunch meats. Also a few frozen entrees, and bananas.

The rest of the store is just as anywhere else and I do shop there for some items.

When I was working, I made several trips to the Walmart headquarters on Bentonville, AK., to assist in major computer upgrades, etc. The hallways of that office were lined with "plaques" noting the huge quantities of products that Walmart bought from the manufacturers....often several rail cars of items. As such, the Walmart buyers were able to negotiate prices that no small business could ever get. I can see the day when its a tossup between Walmart and Amazon as to who gets the bulk of consumer purchases.

I went to buy a Patio set with a friend who made a big deal out of NOT shopping at Walmart, but I stopped and checked out Walmart, anyway, while he grumbled about all their stuff being made in China. They didn't have exactly what I had in mind, so we drove onto Lowes, which greatly relieved my friend, and I found something I could live with. We took it home where we would have to assemble it, and when I opened the box, the very first thing that fell out was a little piece of paper that said, "Made in China." I showed it to my friend who just grunted one of those, "Yeah, but still..." kind of sounds.

I buy a lot of dry goods items that are not available in Walmart stores, but can be purchased online. Prices vary between Amazon and Walmart, with a slight edge toward Walmart. Walmart shipping is free and faster that Amazon, unless it's something being sold by another outlet through Walmart. Then shipping speed and costs are up for grabs, but if it's sold directly through Walmart it's speedy and cheap, and you don't have to pay over $100 a year to qualify as a VIP that gets timely and affordable service. But Amazon does provide access to a lot of odd specialty needs that are hard to find, and I use Amazon for those.

I don't like shopping in a Walmart store. I don't know what it is, but Walmart customers act a lot cruder than say J. C. Penny customers act. Walmart uses a lot of deception with their price signs. Sweaters with a price sign of $8.97 may be $13.48 at the register. And if you go into another Walmart, you will see exactly the same deception. Also, at the exit door, I don't like anybody pawing over the stuff I just bought. I bought it, I own it. They have no right to put their paws on it.
One of the few times I shopped there, this Jewish guy was bugging everybody in the parking lot. Apparently, if he said this prayer to people, he would get credit in heaven, or something. So, he's running around yelling in Hebrew at people. There were a lot of people complaining, but the manager wouldn't discuss it with the customers.
I'll buy online, but I won't set foot in the store.

They seem to renovated several around here including those over 10 miles away botique style. Alot of clothing displays makes one feel like their in a mall or big box store like Macys. Maybe it's their way of signaling more price increases.

Somethings Walmart is good on a cheaper price but other times especially if a drive involved is buy on sale or go to another discounters. I shop stores where they get a lot of odd lots. Sometimes you hit the jack pot and other days walk out of the store with nothing.
