Do you start answering a question here then decide, no, let this one go?

Short for ‘doesn’t bother me’ OR

The abbreviation dBm stands for decibel milliwatts. It refers to the amount of power that an antenna or amplifier is able to produce, or how much signal is present at a site. Decibel milliwatts are, as the name suggests, measured relative to milliwatts.

😂
I like 'doesn't bother me'.......but it stands for deleted by me.

Learned it from another site I visit.

Yes, when I see that people are firmly cemented on their own sides I feel there is no longer the need to respond. My Achilles Heel is that when I see other SF members who I know are decent people with valued opinions being bullied I tend to respond on their behalves. It usually doesn't end well, but at least I tried.

I used to do that. Now I realize that some members have more than one account. If they’ve had a disagreement with other members, they come back as someone else so they can save their ‘squeaky clean, overly pretentious personality. Every once in a while these fake memberships get rotated to create the illusion of busy.

Some topics are inherently inflammatory, and those I try to avoid for fear of “triggering” someone, and getting into a flame war. If I want nastiness, there’s plenty of that on other sites or in the outside world.

Other posts may cause me to fast forward if they resemble an 800-word essay. I’ll be off then in pursuit of shiny objects…ooh, there goes one now! “Teacher, may I be excused? My brain is full…”. 😸

Fast forward on the 800 word essay. At one time, that may have been one of MY posts. 😂 That’s funny.

I often start, then think of the ramifications, ie, do I really want to engage in what may ensue?

Oh yeah. I do that.

Like Buckeye, I step away for a few days sometimes as life takes over, and then other times I return and find lots and lots of things I want to respond to.

Then, also like Buckeye, there are the things you see that you want to respond to because they're incorrect, or an opinion I don't share. I don't always respond to those. I don't think a forum of oldsters should have a lot of angst on it. It's not like, at this stage of life, we're going to change who we are. :D

I'll say this - whenever I get into a back and forth argument on the site, I always feel like quitting posting at all. It just sucks all the fun and enlightenment from it. If it's not fun, I won't do it. Usually I let some time pass. I've also bailed on threads mid-stream when I see it's getting out of hand. I'll simply post something along the lines of "this will be my final post on the subject", and then never go back to it.

Which leads me to the Current Affairs forum. I'm careful about the threads I post in there. Some I refuse to even read, although I'm very interested in them. The Israel situation is a case in point. I'm interested in it, and have pretty strong views, but I don't want to get into it among online friends when I think it's a subject where you could easily lose them or is very polarizing. As such, I don't even read those threads.

@Gardenlover Thanks for the shout out. You're in the right thread, this is where I can be found more often than not. I occasionally pop up in some of the other threads but this one is the one I can generally be found in. Also thought I would add, Chevy man here ('57 Bel Air 2 door hardtop). Good to see you here too :) :coffee:. Don...

I often stop and delete before hitting reply, and some topics I'll avoid altogether. Call it self-censoship or just plain good sense. Choose your battles wisely, they say. Enough arguments in life already without going looking for more...

First I wonder how my reply might be used against me, then I often let it go especially if others have already responded the way I would have. It also depends on my mood, in that case, there's a good chance I'll tickle the ivories and see what happens o_O. Don...
I’ve thought ‘tickle the ivories’ is a musical term meaning ‘playing the piano;’ the keys being made of ivory.
