Do you still dress up and go to formal affairs?

There was a time when everybody I knew was getting married, so I had to dress up for the weddings. But, now, I haven't been to a formal affair in decades. And I guess we've turned into slobs, but casual attire seems appropriate for most things. And if you've ever been to a Walmart really late in the evening, we aren't exactly fashionistas.
Do you still dress up and go to formal affairs?

Not for ages. I do dress decent when I have to go to town, but I have learned my barn clothes look a lot better than some of the stuff I see walking around in Walmart lol. And I don’t even have to change my clothes from the barn because they smell a lot better than some of the stuff I see in Walmart.😳😳

The last time I played dress up was when my son and I went to a Muslim youth group's classical music concert. I knew the "Sistahs" would be hooked up, so I wore something nice. And I was right, some of the outfits in the audience were fabulous, but not necessarily considered formal. My son may get engaged soon and I'm already thinking about what I'll wear. Will I have to buy something new? Knowing him and his intended, it won't be a formal affair but will be dressy.

I do not check out the crowd at Walmart. Everyone can have a bad day.

Do I dress up? Absolutely! Frumpy is for yard work and window washing not for when SO comes home. Formal? In my world formal can be suede and fringe or 1850s. Right now I am working on an Apache outfit for a big function in October as I refuse to do the bustle and ruffle thing.

With all the May/June weddings good sales are on the horizon:>)

It's been years that we had any formal event to go to. What I consider casual is dressy slacks, blouse & heels, now seems to be "formal" by some today I think. I give up on the Dress Codes used for weddings because they are interpreted in different way. It seems that even websites don't match up with each other.

When my great-niece held her country-themed wedding/reception at a historical barn that was remodeled & set up as a wedding venue, I wasn't sure what they meant. I called my SIL (Grandma) & asked her. She said that nice jeans would be acceptable for guests. I thought she was joking, but she said the girls had long dresses & the guys were wearing matching blazers, white button down shirts, cowboy hats/boots & jeans.

Okay. I had a new pair of dark navy dress jeans & a very nice spring dress shirt & sweater to wear. Hubby needed a new pair of slacks & shirt anyway, so we went shopping. I felt funny, but in the end we found out we were part of the over dressed crowd. Some showed up in shorts & flip flops.

I haven't been to a “formal affair” in a long time. I used to enjoy dressing up; nowadays, not so much. It requires more effort than I feel like exerting. I've had enough and don't miss it. I've donated many clothes but still have plenty of glad rags, shoes, and purses that hang in my closets. So, if need be, I'm ready. I dress casually, but no one would call me "frumpy", lol.
