Do you still dress up and go to formal affairs?

Military re-unions, Ambulance Pioneers monthly breakfasts, Auxiliary Police Week, all require specific uniforms for the event. Depending on the event, it could be Mess Dress, or Parade Dress for the Canadian Forces events, Parade Dress for the Auxiliary Police, or plain clothes, for the Ambulance Pioneer meetings.

2025 is the 50th Anniversary of the Toronto Department of Ambulance Services inception in 1975. I joined in January of 1977, and served for ten years. Today, Toronto Paramedics are the largest EMS service in Canada, with over 2400 employees. I was a Toronto Auxiliary Police Constable for 9 years, 1978 to 1986. JIM.
 
I dont have any affairs. If I did I would dress accordingly. :D
Looking like you just crawled out of bed would fritz up my mood.
Besides. Every time I go out looking my worst I usually meet somebody I dont want to meet. :D

I do have my "formal" casual stuff. I up wearing a lot of the regular casual things for out and for yard work.
Things get delegated for yard work once they show a little age and or damage.
That way I usually look put together even if Im grubbing in the dirt or painting or whatever.
Out and about just involves more accessories. It my excuse to wear pins and scarves.
And jackets and vests and neckties once it gets cold.

I always dress up some when I go out. I like to keep in practice just in case. Also, if I didnt when would I get to wear my stuff. :D
I dont miss working but sometimes for a minute I miss wearing suits and heels. And then I come to my senses and remember
I have 75 year old knees. :D
 

a friend of mine owned a catering business. she used to call us poor college students when there were a lot of empty seats at a wedding reception. we would dress the part of wedding guests and partake in a lovely meal. They were always those seats in the back of the room. If we saw the bride or groom pointing us, we would hurry out of there. it was fun while it lasted.

You sound like SO. I went through my treasure box and moaned that I have no place to wear most. "If it sparkles it goes with old sweats." I have none!
 
yes we do ..sorta a bit nicer than casual ….but nothing to fancy or frilly
for our dancing

Where we are in holidays ..it’s a well known beach surfing 🏄 area ..just down the road from surfers paradice
( yep its the name of the area ) Queensland Aust ….and as far as dressing gos here in the the tropics part of Australia….I don’t think they need a very big bag to pack clothing ….

Not as much as I used to. I only get an invitation to a dinner party or a champagne brunch occasionally and I haven;t been to an opera since my wife died. I did enjoy dressing up because my wife would go all out and dress to the nines and have her hair done up by a professional stylist. She looked like she had just stepped out of one of her fashion magazines.

I remember when she bought a Versace dress that cost about $600 back in the 90’s. I had to take one of my nerve pills to calm down, but I never said anything to her about it. (But I wanted to.)
 
Don't own a suit or tie and I haven't worn anything that could even be remotely considered formal / dress up since I last wore my Army dress uniform back in June of 70' when I got out of the Army....mama did make me purchase a
sport coat a few years ago just in case something popped up but so far nothing has popped up and I've yet to wear it.

Here's the way I figure it.... if shined leather boots or shoes, nice ironed jeans or slacks and a dress shirt aren't good enough for where I'm going I don't need to be there.

She enjoyed it and you had her at your elbow.

I disagree. Wear your sparklies with pride. And you CAN wear them with nice sweats. :D
Its too hot now but come cooler weather try one on your coat and a dressy jacket.
BTW Solid colors are easiest to work with.

If others can wear their pajamas and legging that look like theyve been sprayed on
then the rest of us can wear our fancy stuff with our casual clothes. :D
I always wear a pin or a scarf and sometimes both every time I go out and about.
