Do you still go on picnics?

My mom used to love to go to the park, so we would take her there, and she just enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids in a natural setting.
I love eating in the outdoors, and I know it's a bit of a hassle getting everything together and carting it to the park, but there is something about eating in the open air that is refreshing. I think it would be cool to have a bucket list of enjoying a picnic at every national park across the U.S., but I guess it's one thing to have the list, but quite another to do it. That would be one helluva lot of traveling.

It would... so start with a few in your own area or state? Sounds like fun! Necessities: fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, and some kind of chocolate. (y)
Sounds good, but I would probably trade out the fried chicken for a Turkey and smoked gouda sandwich with tomato, lettuce, and pickle ...... and a cold beer of course.

Maybe it’s time to invest in a rolling picnic basket. 😉🤭😂

This picnic trailer is based on land rover running gear, and was built in 1967 to the Duke of Edingburgh’s specifications. The trailer was used for picnics and shooting lunches at Sandringham and at Balmoral until 1994, when it was replaced by a similar trailer.

Impromptu picnics on day trips are about it for me.

Sometimes I bring food with me and other times I stop at a farm stand, bakery, or small town grocery store to pick up a few things.

Even stopping at a fast food restaurant and finding a nice spot to eat outdoors makes things more enjoyable and interesting.

Wow, that's more like a weekender,

When I want to prolong my trip to town to pick up groceries I stop somewhere in town and get food to go. Then I take the "scenic" route home, which is over mountains. It takes a bit longer than the valley route, but is worth it. I stop at an overlook somewhere and eat my take out lunch in the car. I enjoy it.

Neighbors up the street took their kids car shopping. Lots of promotional events today.

The boy was happy, he got both a hot dog and at another place a hamburger. He also had 3 balloons from the 3 dealers they visited. His sister says she liked the barbecued chicken one place was cooking on "A long, long grill!" She had a cheap necklace and a "slap bracelet" thing as her spoils.

Not a picnic, but the parents seemed to have as much fun as their kids. Gave me some extra brochures.

Yes. If we go someplace when we’re staying overnight, I always pack a lunch. I can‘t handle two restaurant meals in a day. I also don’t like wasting an hour of travel time sitting waiting for my meal.

Around here we sometimes pick up something to go and eat it at the park.

When we had our RV, very few folks seemed to stop at the interstate picnic stops. City parks were popular. It was always older folks like us.

We camped at a city campground regularly. The lakeside picnic area was really popular. It is a real event - grills, coolers, games. People had a great time.

I enjoyed company picnics, especially if they occurred on a workday so we got a few extra hours of lunch time.

The last job I had only did indoor potluck days, those were nice too.

I've gone to a couple picnics that some of the clubs I've joined have, but I haven't enjoyed them as much either due to insects flying around or sometimes not knowing who to sit with. Oh heck I guess I'll go ahead and sign up for the one I got an email about today, I was uncertain but now this thread has motivated me to go (it isn't for another couple weeks tho).

We went on a picnic once out in the "wilds" and I had taken a cooler with drinks, chips, bread and a container of egg salad to make sandwiches there so they wouldn't get soggy.

I pulled out the container of "egg salad" and unfortunately it turned out to be a container of leftover corn.

I had grabbed the first container I saw out of the refrigerator...it was yellowish and I just assumed it was the egg salad.

So, we had a picnic of chips and bread and sodas. Some picnic....

I haven't been on a picnic for many many years, but up until I was a teenager, picnics were a major event in my life and a major event for my whole family. Sometimes another family would join us, and we would come together in one of the picnic areas of nearby Bemis Woods (pronounced Bee Muss).

There were tables of course, but we did the blanket on the ground thing in an adjacent field with Salt Creek running by. We had a small charcoal broiler, the picnic basket, and lots of 6-12, a pretty lousy mosquito repellent that was considered state of the art back then. After or before we ate there were short hiking trails that went through a dense forest, or sometimes a game of baseball. Wow! That memory is burned in my brain permanently.

The last time I went on a picnic was about 10 years ago. The church I was going to at that time had regular spring and summer picnics at our City Park. Those who attended brought side dishes and desserts, and the church provided the meat. I enjoyed those times.

I would never go on a picnic alone, just like I can't eat out in a restaurant alone. I wish I could, but it's just not enjoyable to me, and nothing I do has ever changed that.

Only as a kid. But do like the concept as a possible dating activity, especially with small groups of friends. As a landscape photographer, I know lots of wonderful out of the way places to do such even in our local region. Especially during our spring season with much greenery and wildflowers. So just not the usual scenario plunking down in some urban park grassy spot maybe with a park bench.

This wonderful reserve during spring is an hour easy drive south. Endless spots to plunk down for lunch including along shady ephemeral streams.

I haven't eaten at a park in a very long time. When I was a little girl we would go to the amusement park and we'd have our lunches we brought from home. We also went to 3 different lakes and swam and had a picnic that we grilled there. I really loved those times. Time flies so fast .
