Do You Still Go To The Movie Theater ?

Little over a year ago, nice lady across the street and I went to see a movie at the local theater.
It was a Tuesday Matinee ... senior discount ... and we were the only 2 in the entire theater !!!
Well, they have multi screens but we were the only ones at our screen. Maybe because it was just a bad movie D'OH
That was the first time in years, I'd been.

Yes, I go to the movie theater regularly because my partner works and some of the movies I want to see aren't his style. The theater is in a two-story mall so I walk both stories before the movie. There have been a few times I have been the only one there, but most times it's other retirees.

I don't go on holidays or weekends because I'm concerned about active shooters. It may sound crazy, but a few years ago a mentally challenged man was banging a skateboard on the floor of the mall. Everyone was evacuated and an announcement was made to leave the mall. There were people literally stepping over kids to get out. Crazy world we live in.

You know what I miss? the old drive-ins! Wow, Those were fun!

We still have a drive-in between here and the next town over.
It has 4 screens with a concession in the middle ...

First drive-in movie I remember was going in 1959 with mom and dad.
Had a 56 Oldsmobile and dad had turned the whole backseat into a flat area for us kids.
I remember it because of how much my mother enjoyed that movie.
And with three young children, young herself and a stay at home wife and mother ... she needed and deserved some enjoyment !!!
The movie ? ... A Summer Place with Richard Egan, Dorothy McGuire, Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee.

Is that the last drive-in still in America?

You are so lucky! How wonderful!

Does it have swings and Jungle Jims in front of the screen?

I remember seeing "Peyton Place" with my parents at a drive-in. (with the nude scene! hahaha!)

When I was living in New York City, I went to a theater at least once a week. Nowadays? No, not really. Although, back in 2021, my niece rented a local theater for a few hours so her twins could invite some friends to see a movie with them for free. I was there. The movie? Godzilla vs Kong. Totally stupid. Although I must confess, I was rooting for Kong.

Don't hardly ever go but I did go to see the Top Gun sequel earlier this year - or - maybe it was late last year. Hadn't been to a movie theatre in probably 20 years or more because there's rarely a movie I would want to pay to watch. I enjoyed the experience (y) Spiffy VIP section with plush, adjustable, reclining chairs & the popcorn was yummy 😋 I'd go again if and when there's something worth watching.

I haven't been to a movie theater in many years and have no desire to go. The last time I was there, the sound was so loud it was deafening, I couldn't stand it. In fact, I went looking for the manager to complain about it. Of course, he didn't do anything about the megadecible sound, but he did give me two complimentary tickets... which I never used. Most movies are lousy and aren't worth the price of admission. I just wait and watch them at home. That's if I can find something that looks like it won't make me hurl.

If I want to go to the theater, I'd rather see a play.

A few years ago my grandson wanted me to take him to the theatre to see "ANT". I had no idea what it was all about but succumbed to his wishes. When it started it was so loud and rather boring, but I did sit through it and became comatose and drifted off to sleep. When it was over, he asked why I fell asleep and I said it was rather boring, he then told me he had seen it 2 times before, if I'd known that I wouldn't have gone.

You fell asleep? You really must've been bored. Well, now you know when your grandson wants you to take him to a movie to ask if he's already seen it. 😄

The movie has to be something I'm really excited to see, or one good for fun family viewing or that I think would be better viewed on a large screen. The exceptions would be movies that are too long (like Avatar: The Way of Water - 3 hours, which hit Disney+ shortly after its release anyway) and being treated to a ticket, like I was on Memorial Day. My honorary daughter took me to see The Little Mermaid because she knows I absolutely love mermaids.
