Do you still have cable?

I dumped mine yesterday and will be saving 55 dollars a month! My two year contract was up with Verizon and I realized that I just wasn't watching what was on Cable that much...

I have not had cable in about 12 years and I don't miss it. When I was working I had a package that at the time cost about $80.00/month and I only watched a few channels most of the time so I decided that for me it was a waste. Now with my trusty rabbit ears and the converter box on my ancient 200 pound television I pull in about 30 channels and I still only watch a few channels most of the time.

I really, really don't like monthly bills. I try to keep my running expenses as low as possible and then splurge on a few things that I consider luxuries, a little less bourgeois and a little more bohemian.

Wow! You still have rabbit ears! I tried that converter bos thing when the big chabnge came but it just give enough of what I wanted...

When you say cable, I assume you mean cable TV. I have cable Internet via Time Warner Cable, but not TV or phone. For TV and movies, I stream via an Apple TV box and play DVDs I own or borrow from the library.

We have Directv, satellite. Because of hills/mountains around us, we can't use an ordinary antenna. I'd like to get away from it but like the cable news stations.

We have cable for internet only because it's fast.

My condo provides basic cable, free of charge. That's only for a limited number of channels. For anything extra, we have to pay extra. I get HBO and Showtime because I like a lot of their shows, and to me it's worth it.

However, it gets complicated. I can also stream programs to my TV via a Roku stick plugged into the back of it, and many of those "extra" cable channels are also available that way (for a fee, of course.) I haven't compared them, as it's constantly shifting sands anyway.

I do stream Netflix and Acorn, which are well worth the cost, and not available on cable.

I have internet through Comcast and have subscriptions with Amazon Prime and Playstation Vue. Perfectly happy with my setup and cheaper too.

I have Comcast for internet plus Amazon Prime and Netflix. But I would miss the news shows like CNN and MSNBC. Is there another way to get those on TV?

Oceanic Time Warner cable for TV & internet & an internet phone I don't use. Since I live in a remote area of the Big Island, my options are limited. Antennae do not work because of the pesky mountains. No joke, I can not even get a radio station out here. I forget the cost, but it is what it is. :)

I have Verizon, I-net and phone. I have only basic TV. I'll tell you though, if it continues to go up in price, with all the other increases in living, it will have to go. I don't watch a whole lot of TV but without it during these long nights, I'd go stir crazy. Our local channels don't have programming I especially like.

I have cable TV (only on one TV) and internet with Comcast. The TVs in the kitchen and living room are free with rabbit ears.

I have Comcast for my internet and wifi. I stream Netflix and Acorn through a Roku box. I got rid of cable TV three or four years ago because it was so dang expensive and most of what was on it was crap anyway. I get news from the internet.

I bundle with Comcast and it's a fortune! Really unbelievable. Much more than my utilities but I'm hooked. Not sure on what since I still can't seem to find something to watch but I think I've been brainwashed. They're good! Every time I try to quit they give me that offer that I just can't refuse.

When I went on Medicare in January and found out how much would be deducted from my Social Security for that.....plus the cost of a supplemental policy.....I knew that it would be necessary for my budget to cut expenses where I could. I promised myself that I would cut the cord with Charter Cable and save myself $95 a month. A week ago I bought a Roku device and took the cable box back to Charter. Yay for me!! So far I am loving what Roku streaming has to offer, for free or a nominal cost. The only two disappointments are that I can't seem to get the Roku to work with my external speakers for surround sound, and I can't watch Wheel of Fortune without cable service :upset:

When I became a widow four years ago and had to tighten the budget, the first two things to go were my husband's SUV and cable TV.
I have an outdoor TV antenna on the roof, and get about 40-50 channels with that .. Wheel of Fortune comes in fine on CBS. ..as does ABC, NBC, PBS, etc.
I'm not a big TV watcher anyway, and when I want to sit down in the evening there are enough choices there for free.

Same here, except I have an outdoor antenna and a newer style flat screen TV.

Like you, I haven't paid a cable bill in well over a decade. I figure my savings are approaching or have possibly even surpassed the $10,000 range!!!

And, like you, I get over 30 channels full of programming that, quite frankly, I prefer over the crappy, garbage shows that cable channels offer!!!

I've got Green Acres on right now.

I never tire of those great old shows from back in the day.

Unfortunately for some people living in apartments cable is the only alternative in an are where there are few over the air stations with an antenna are available.

In Canada, the cable companies have been forced to offer a 'skinny' package for $25.00 per month. Also in Canada legislation has been passed that you can pick and choose the channels you want on top of the skinny package without having to bundle it with another package.

I'm looking for something that will stream t.v. through my computer instead of cable.

Once such item for an android tablet is called slingbox. Apparently you can watch t.v. through your tablet.

Hulu and Netflix are good options for that kind of thing.

Acorn is good if you like British TV.
