Do you still have cable?

We live way out in the country, so TV antenna's are of little value. We've had satellite TV, phone and internet bundles, for years. Last year, our local electrical Co-op strung fiber optics through our area, and that service is outstanding. We get unlimited, crystal clear phone, 100 MB Internet, and the best TV picture we've ever had, for 2/3rd's of what we had been paying.

There are some high powered antennas on the market nowadays that have reception ranges of up to 100 miles or so.

Just in case you're ever interested, that is... :bigwink:

We got rid of ours a year or so ago. We use antennas on both our TV's and get pretty strong signals..even get more than the regular network channels. Our main TV is a SmartTv and we get many apps through it, I can stream Netflix and Hulu on it, and even YouTube. On our other TV we have Amazon Fire, which makes that TV rather smart too. So, we went from over $200 a month, for just the TV service, to less than $150 for internet, phone and the streaming movie channels.

Cable for high speed internet only. TV channels when we want to watch local news comes from an HD antenna with a 50 mile reception range.

Netflix, KODI, & Amazon Prime TV programming makes it possible to watch anything we feel like watching. The advantage of those as sources we aren't restricted. Shows like Fresh Meat & Being Human, completed the Canadian series Nikita & Lost Girl & are presently watching the Telemundo series 3 of Senora Acero. Can't forget to mention movies are available to. The best part, all are without advertising.

Yes I do and it is quite expensive. Bundle with Comcast which includes TV, Internet and Landline. When my contract with them is up, planning to do away with landline.

Except for news/weather everything we watch we have recorded previously. The DVR is also the cable box.
It is all in a bundle, cable, internet and phone. It is excessively expensive, but it does work. It is annoying that we pay for over 100 channels, but only watch a max of 14.
I tried an antenna when we first moved into our condo, too many big buildings and big trees, zero reception.

I have DISH. We want our sports.

I'm friends with a lady who would love nothing better than to cut the cable and go antenna, but her husband has to have his sports channels, so they continue to pay through the nose.

Seems like there'd be some kind of Hulu or Netflix type service but solely for live streaming sporting events.

I would love to go back to antenna but there are two things that stop me. One is my house is in the middle of a lot of trees and hills and when I had an antenna before, each day it was windy, I couldn't watch anything for the signal cutting out. I would hate to cancel what I have now and then find out it wasn't any better with an antenna now than it used to be. The other thing that stops me from trying it again is just the thoughts of having to call AT&T makes me not want to do it. Right now I have a package that includes my phone, internet and my TV service. At the time I subscribed to Direct, I chose the smallest package I could get so canceling this service wouldn't make that much difference in how much I pay each month so it really doesn't seem worth it to me.

Here in my part of Wales I can't get cable- which is annoying as I would like to sign up to the company that provides it- but I do have satellite TV for sport and several British versions of American channels.
And I can get NBC, CBS, ABC and one two other channels on my iPad via a service called USTV.Which is aimed at Americans living abroad but anyone can get it.

I have Comcast for internet plus Amazon Prime and Netflix. But I would miss the news shows like CNN and MSNBC. Is there another way to get those on TV?

Playstation Vue for both of these requirements. I subscribe to their mid-tier package and it cost $35/mo. You have to have internet of course but I would have that anyway so don't look on that as an added expense for watching TV. PS Vue has a great picture with built in DVR and on demand content. Sling is another good option. Both much cheaper than regular cable or satellite dish.

I have cable TV, with one of the paid channels (HBO), also get streaming TV via a Roku stick. I subscribe to Netflix and Acorn. With those channels, plus watching regular network TV occasionally (mostly Jeopardy and PBS programs), I have access to the best that TV has to offer. I don't begrudge spending the extra money on it, as it provides about 95% of my entertainment.

Yes I do. But if I find out that I can get excellent reception without it (using a digital cable box I purchase outright), I may not keep it. I live in the downtown section with many taller buildings surrounding us. Reception here was awful without cable. Antennas didn't work either. I have a few streaming options but if the WiFi connection fails for some reason, there goes the streaming. I may just keep basic cable. I'm giving myself till the end of the year when my discounted package deal runs out to decide. Two years in a row, I managed to get my cable bill reduced for a current total of $65 less a month.

Right now we just use an antenna, as I mentioned before, with Hulu and Netflix. Since our income will be cut once my disability starts ( I have been collecting off my vacation hours since November) I have started looking into how to save cash. Right now, with Frontier, bundling phone and internet, we pay about $130 a month. Spectrum cable is offering a bundle of basic cable, high speed DSL, and phone for $90 a month for the first year, then up to $134 thereafter. So if we got it, we would be adding cable, AND saving money for a year, and then, basically paying $4 a month more that we are now for the addition of cable. And there are plenty of channels available. We are considering it.

Yes we have Directv with lots of channels I never watch. My husband gets the package so he can watch all the NASCAR stuff. They get to you like that. We don't watch the same shows so I guess we use more of them than I think. We do enjoy tv and it is pretty much our entertainment besides going out to eat.

No cable here, too far out in the sticks. DISH network for TV, Frontier(formerly Verizon) for landline phone and DSL internet.

DISH is expensive, would dump them BUT catch-22...Frontier is gouging us($49/mo) for absolute bottom-of-the-line DSL service. I would dump them too BUT....

I'm looking into Hughsnet(satellite) for internet and phone, maybe could eventually dump both DISH and Frontier.

We had cable TV/Direct TV for +/- 10 years. They kept raising the price and I kept cutting back to a less expensive package. Ultimately I got down to the bottom one - then they took away ION and I DC'd it. I use indoor antennas which do a good job most of the time. We do get some weather/wind interference sometime and I also have Amazon Fire with Prime, STARZ and HBO. My grandson subscribes to Netflix and since he now lives here. I get to use that also so I am not lacking in TV choices.
Also I found about 20 channels that are local that I never knew existed that I get by antenna.
