Do You Take Supplements

Or vitamins, or omegas?

I personally study the subject, before there were doctors,
there were men and women in villages, who knew what
parts of certain plants, would take pain away, or help to
keep you healthy, if you took them regularly.

My readings have educated me and I have found some
interesting information, "Sea Buckthorn oil", is one such,
find, it contains Omegas, 3, 6, 7 & 9, along with vitamin D,
used by the Buddhist Monks, to stay healthy, if they only
had rice for food and they would eat the berries with it
and they never got scurvy.

On Wednesday, I heard of another, "Wonder Oil", called
Nigella Sativa, the way that it was described to me was
far-fetched, in my mind anyway, so I went to a pharmacy
and I asked a pharmacist, if it was a con!

No it is not a con, it is one of the best supplements that
you will ever find, it is from the Middle East and has been
used for centuries, he said, "In Islamic countries, they say
that it will cure any illness, except death".

You can drink it, or take tablets, you can take the powder
in a drink, or you can put it on your hair and skin, it is now
in my mind worth looking at.

I thought that you should know about this, please tell me
what you think/find.

Mike.

Nigella Sativa is known as Black Cumin...it's used in cooking

While generally safe, black seed oil can cause side effects, including rash (if applied topically), allergic reactions, irregular periods, and gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort and nausea. People who take blood thinners, are pregnant, or have an upcoming surgery should steer clear of black seed oil.

  • Digestive Issues: Can cause nausea, bloating, or constipation in some people.

  • Medication Interference: May interact with blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood-thinning medications, increasing bleeding risk.

  • Allergic Reactions: May cause skin rashes or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

  • Liver/Kidney: People with liver or kidney disease should be cautious.

I take 10000 IU of Vitamin D3 with K2 and Magnesium. Also Vitamin C, prostate supplement, and saw palmetto.
Anyone living in a northern climate with limited sunlight should supplement with D3. Oh, and melatonin and valerian root at night for sleep.

With respect to the black seed, I was adding this (as powder) to my cereal daily during the Covid crisis. Not sure if it helped, but it did not cause any side affects to me.

Every day I take a B Vitamin complex Supplement ... and Vit D3+K2...... and Boron 10mg ....& Lutein
Why? I take this and it is one of the most recommended supplements to take.

Vitamin D3 and K2 are commonly paired supplements, with Vitamin D3 (often 5000 IU) aiding calcium absorption and Vitamin K2 (usually 100mcg+ as MK-7) ensuring calcium is directed to bones rather than arteries. This combination supports bone health, cardiovascular function, and immune health, often taken as a single daily capsule.

Key Aspects of D3 + K2 Supplementation
  • Synergy: While D3 increases calcium absorption, K2 activates proteins (like matrix GLA protein and osteocalcin) that manage where that calcium goes, preventing vascular calcification.
  • Optimal Forms:Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is preferred over D2, and Vitamin K2 (specifically MK-7) is more bioavailable and longer-lasting than K1
    .
    • Dosage Considerations: While common supplements contain 100mcg of K2, some research suggests higher doses (400mcg+) may be necessary for maximum arterial protection.
    • Safety: It is recommended to take these supplements with food, and to consult a healthcare provider, particularly if taking blood thinners or if you have pre-existing kidney conditions.

Important Distinctions
  • Vitamin D3 vs. D2: D3 is generally more effective at raising blood levels of vitamin D than D2.
  • Vitamin K2 vs. K3: Vitamin K3 (menadione) is a synthetic form that is not generally recommended for human supplementation, whereas K2 is a natural, highly beneficial form.

why what ?...... I already said I take Vit D3 with K2

At present, I take a multivitamin as well as D3 + K2, plants sterols every day, and B12 twice a week. This was recommended by my physician. It is revaluated twice a year.
For breakfast, I eat fresh fruits and mix a tablespoon of grounded flax plus a tablespoon of Badia Trilogy Health Seeds (which are flax, hemp and chia seeds) in greek yoghurt.

I almost died from rheumatic fever when I was 5-6. The doctor back then had mom & dad start me on Upjohn Unicaps, if anyone remembers those.

I have been taking vitamins/minerals ever since but they have changed as I age and needs are different, and/or the doctor tells me to add a supplement.

I only take two meds daily — one for high blood pressure, one for ocular hypertension; the two are totally separate issues and not related.

I also started taking Caltrate 600+D3 plus D3 after husband’s cancer doctor recommended them for him. I went from drinking nearly a gallon of milk daily to drinking zero milk, so figured of the cancer doctor told DH to take them, that was good enough for me.

I have made a nearly 20 year study out of supplements for horses after one developed Equine Metabolic Syndrome and another one developed Insulin Resistance. I nearly lost the latter to severe founder. <———THIS is a whole ‘nuther necessary line of supplement study if one wants their horse to live🥸💸🥸💸

Me too with the Tumeric... plus it leaves such a horrible aftertaste

I take a multivitamin and a few other supplements which I have reviewed with my doctor.

In past years, I took many supplements simply because they got high marks for various benefits. I no longer do that after finding that some of those broke my skin out, caused gastrointestinal distress, had negative interactions with my prescriptions, and had potential to cause liver damage, kidney stones, etc.
