Do you think coffee is addictive?

I almost always have one coffee a day.
There is no overwhelming, "addictive" need to have another.
I function normally on days that I do not have a coffee.
Addictive? Not to me

My experience is the same. Therefore, I don't find it addictive for myself, but certainly I think it could be, perhaps for some people, and possibly even for me, if I regularly had more of it than I do. I don't know, because I never had it routinely.

One a day for me is not an addiction. Some days I do not have a coffee at all. No change in my demeanor.

No, not addictive for me. I have a cup or two each morning and enjoy it, but don't drink any more during the day. I like to try different kinds and grind my own beans at home. Keeps it interesting. :coffee:

It isn't addictive for me. Now that they have all those delicious flavors of creamer out I drink a bit more during the day but I could easily do without.
The hubby and I start our day together having a cup of coffee. I'm not sure I would know how to start the day any other way. Not because I need the caffeine but our ritual of over 40 years.

I have two cups a day, one with breakfast and one after lunch. It's just decaf but I love it and I would feel deprived and depressed if I couldn't have at least the breakfast one. Not sayin' I'd kill for it or steal for it though.

I think I could prolly accept Tea instead but so far I haven't been put to the test since I began drinking coffee after I gave it up 10 years ago. During Covid lockdown I ordered a jar of instant decaff, been drinking it ever since, thought it would be a treat, and it is. 💛❤️☕💜💛 😋

I am/was a regular coffee drinker every day but then switched to tea. I felt ok. Tea doesn't have nearly as much caffeine as coffee. Recently I switched back to coffee. I could go without it and probably will again.

I don't drink it very strong because that gives me the jitters and stomach problems. I drink it at about one fifth the strength the coffee bag suggests.

It's the ritual, getting out of bed, making coffee, washing face with coffee cup at hand, do morning groans, with coffee, walking into bedroom, cup of coffee in hand,
sipping while making decisions to meet the day,
wondering if a second cup is needed.
Ah, I've had my coffee, now...
All behaviors are built around a steaming cup of coffee

I drink coffee first thing in the morning and throughout the day. Small cups, not the large mugs. Always de-caf, black with no sugar. Love to drink it while driving and if on a long enough drive will take a thermos to nurse myself along.
Rarely drink tea, will have a bit of milk, and absolutely no alcohol in any form at any time.

I think it’s mildly addictive.

I definitely need that first cup of coffee in the morning.

I always hated staying in hotels and motels that didn’t offer an in-room coffee maker. More than once I’ve found myself roaming the halls at 4:00 am in search of coffee.

The need was stronger when I smoked. For some reason, coffee and cigarettes are a perfect combination.

I could get along without coffee, but I would definitely feel the change for the first couple of weeks.

Maybe it is for some - psychologically, IMO. I have coffee just about every day, but on the days I don't, I don't have any withdrawal symptoms.
Sometimes, we confuse "liking something a lot" with "addiction."

One a day is all I really need, just don’t get between me and the coffee maker first thing in the morning.

Could you please, move your coffee maker to a different spot?
I am having some trouble, this morning, getting back and forth to the refrigerator, without crossing in front of you.

Whatever's in the refrigerator seems to be more addictive for me.:giggle:

Your thread title should have more correctly stated:

Do you have self control over coffee's addictive effects?

Caffeine has mild addictive chemical effects within our neural systems at synaptic levels well documented in research. But for that matter, so does eating sugar or fried chicken or for that matter food in general. In any case addiction is not about self control. For example at one extreme, there have always been some opiate users that had enough self control that they lived productive lives only occasionally dabbling.
