Do you think "fur babies" is over doing it?

We used to have pet cats and dogs. Now, we have "fur babies". Cats used just have a litter box; now, cats have to have multi-story hangout trees. Dogs used to get dry dog food, now, dogs have to have gourmet, refrigerated then warmed, super nutritional meals.

That sounds like "fur babies" live a better life than homeless humans.

I think it's over doing it a bit, but to each his own.

I want my cats to know they can count on me to feed them every day, and that they're safe here, but I don't pretend they aren't cats. If I died and nobody came around to set food out for them for a few days, I don't pretend they wouldn't start eating my face or whatever.

I give them credit for some intelligence, but I don't pretend it's human intelligence. I'm fascinated with their animal instincts but I don't confuse it with human reasoning.

That depends on the human you are comparing them to. Sometimes the cat comes out on top.

No I don't think it's overdoing it. Many animals take care of other species babies for gosh sakes. We do the same and can be thought of as their parents. Our Furbabies are like little toddlers in their intelligence. They also have their own know how and intelligence. My little Suzy will forever be my baby! Dogs are better than humans after all! They are sensitive beings that communicate back to us through how they get to know us emotionally (they have very real feelings like all animals do) and what they know instinctually and their personal histories.

Whoever once called them "dumb animals" was very much mistaken. They have rights now thanks to people who care(d) very much about them. They need to have even more rights but don't get me started on that today.

Why shouldn't a pet have super nutritional meals? Do you like your dinner warm? Your water fresh? I'm not in agreement to this way of thinking!

However I agree with you over the term "fur-babies". It sounds awful to me. But whatever milks your goat, I guess.

Toby used to like to Lay atop the TV Set cabinet, lean over the side and watch TV with me.
That cat showed no fear. Would follow as I walked Luke after dark when I got home from work.
Me & Luke at the side of the Burbs housing street and Toby along the house's shrub lines.

My pets now lay in my easy chair or foot stool. I just built an 80 sq. ft. back porch with north and South
stairs so they can get to back yard outdoors easier. They thank me by wanting outdoors a lot more.

You must know some pretty sorry humans. I've met people who don't have any more common sense than a cat, but as much cunning. I've met people who will bite the hand that feeds them, same as a cat, but for very different reasons. Usually self-serving reasons. But humans are more far more complicated than cats, on every level. (need I even say?)

My wife once told a breeder, "We don't just buy our dogs, we adopt them." I guess that was true. They were part of the family as long as they lived. I once said that if the house were on fire and my wife could save only the dog or me, I'd be in trouble. In truth, it would probably have been a tough choice for her. I like dogs. She loved them. She might have called them fur babies at times. I don't remember.
