Do you think history is cyclical?

There's an old adage that history repeats itself. But I wonder if history is cyclical. And maybe, we repeat every 100 years? In the 1920s there was the Spanish Flu-2020s covid. In the 19teens WWI and the Red Scare, in the 20teens Ukraine War, Russian aggression. In 1910/20 strikes, civil unrest, in 2020, US Capitol attacked. Also major wars seem to be mid century- 40s, 50s, 60s. Is there a cycle of events that repeats throughout history? We are creatures of habit, are we setting ourselves up for repeating events?

yes, i see similarities in many smaller things ...
people will argue if you try to point out anything so i just watch and laugh for those able to see it you can be prepared for the eventual outcome.

Do you think history is cyclical?

In the last several centuries, nations have risen and fallen in the span of around 200 years

We know many things are cyclical. Clocks, washing machines, the seasons, etc. When it comes to history and the cycles of climate, wars, civilizations, economic busts and booms, things are a bit more complex. I see things going around in spirals with ever widening circumference because more complexity has been added as "time" has gone on. If we are talking the predictability of what will happen within a cycle, it is highly speculative, and often open to propaganda to support the claim. I think it is a crap shoot to know for sure if history repeats itself...it all depends on who is observing the phenomena.

Yes, fuzzybuddy, I believe that it is, the only differences
are the advances in weapons, technology, living standards
and health and of course the people, we are the offspring
of those in history.

Not cyclical but get the right combination of people who know & understand history vs those lacking knowledge of history or an accurate version of history society will repeat the mistakes that could be learned from history.

It's probably just a coincidence and not really a "cycle" that it's been almost exactly 100 years since the beginning of the rise of fascism in Europe and now we're seeing it rise again. Time will tell if the outcome will be the same.

IMO if we look for patterns involving random events over time we will find them, but I’m not sure that they have meaning or significance.

Sort of like my parents and grandparents belief in the notion that deaths happen in groups of three.

People will always be people, no matter where they are. If cyclical means predictable then yes history is cyclical.
