It's been years since I've gone swimming in a public swimming pool. I don't think it's healthy at all, and I remember a long time ago feeling a bit sick, like I had a cold, after using a public pool. Hubby felt bad that time too, and feels the same way, won't go near a public pool anymore.
I don't enjoy all the chlorine either, I think it's bad for you too. Also, IMO, they couldn't put enough chlorine to kill all the stuff in there that comes out of people's noses, mouths and other orifices. Many people make no effort to use a restroom before using the pool, or during their swim if they need to. Some people just have very bad hygiene, and don't shower before the pool, either there or at home.
I just joined a fitness center a couple of days ago, and they have a pool there, it's just meant for exercise. They also have a hot tub area that's public, I think hot tubs are even worse, due to the higher warmer water temperature. Just out of curiosity today, I checked out the area and read the signs on the wall. I don't think there's any children allowed in the gym, they have a babysitting area for the mother's that work out there.
Anyhoo, the sign said that anyone wearing diapers (I imagine Depends), have to wear protective outer clothing over them. That reminded me of pools I've been in where children were present, the young ones on the shallow end. Didn't think much about it years back, but I'm sure there were a few loads there that weren't contained properly. :eeew:
How about you, do you frequent public pools or hot tubs?
