Absolutely agree with everything you said. Reality seems to be something disappearing in the rearview mirror for so many who won't consider that they are being fed B.S. I have discovered through reading neuroscience information that there is a biological reason behind it.
The brain uses roughly 20% of the energy available in the body. However at about 3 1/2 lbs, it is actually less than 2% of the body mass, and therefore it seeks ways to conserve energy whenever possible. One way is categorical thinking (Black or white thinking). Something is either good or bad or right or wrong, and not much thought is given for marginal degrees of those opposites. These are shortcuts that plague human thought.
The other way to save energy is to adhere to an already existing belief, rather than analyze or examine it. Think of it this way: It takes far less energy to patch a flawed building than it does to tear it down and start over. This is the mindset we know as confirmation bias. It saves energy, so it is the default method of thinking. It is only when we are willing to force the brain to put some work into it, and set aside any ego concerns that we may have to admit we were in error, that we can ever assess what is closest to truth. Anyway, just food for thought.
And as I've mentioned previously, big software companies are very aware of the science of human behavior. They hire psychologists to capture this information and to write it into code. This is how engagement is maintained. Some engagement we're aware of, others we just find ourselves doing, and it's no mistake.
I recall reading an article about loot boxes in video games. The science behind that, the trickling out of reward, is fascinating. But make no mistake, it's there to tweak your dopamine periodically so you keep playing.
