Do you think we need robotic cats and dogs as pets?

I have had dogs all my life and I wondered the same thing. I have a young 40 lb pound basset dog now and I would hate if something like that happened to me. She is young still so....
 

I want the real cat as long as I can take care of one. When I time comes when I know I may not last long, I might get a senior cat or something. I can't imagine not having a pet. I'd want them euthanized when I'm gone.
 
They are toys and for me would never come close to replacing the live pet.
They are not responding to the human. The program does all that .
One may as well just buy a cute stuffed one if cuddles are needed.

It is good that these robots can help comfort an Alzheimers or Dementia sick person or child but
I just cannot imagine one ever taking the place of a real animal with a normal adult.
I would love to have a dog or cat in my life again but at this age I cannot care for a pet as I would like.

Lots of stray animals in shelters waiting to be picked up and loved.

a lot to be (l)earned from animals especially those which have domesticated us. there's some healing to be found in a cat's pur and the canine connection can be instrumental.

A robot can't really love you. They can be programmed to act like they love you, but only real flesh and blood can truly love. I would feel like a total loser if I had a robot pretending to love me.

So, no, we don't need robotic cats and dogs as pets. A robot to do chores around the house sure would be nice, though.

Goes hand in hand with my thoughts of companionship if my lady passes before me.
I'd move back to the cabin
