A southern associate once told me that "Bless you heart" was actually meant as an insult in the south.

Lol there was an American from the South on a forum. He talked very polite and called women darling or something. He was looking for a wife, but did not have a lot of success on that forum. I said: In Holland if we like you we insult you, so for instance if I say: hey armadillo! it means I show interest. He said: In the South we then say: Bless your heart hahahahaha.
