Do you think your pets understand English?

Yes thoroughly convinced they do.....

I think every pet I ever had understood it. Maybe because I talked to them all the time. My dog though, understood more than any other ones. She even understood when she was not being talked to but talked about. One time she felt bad when heard my husband say she smothered him. She put her head down and walked so slow up the stairs like she was really sad and went to bed. He had to go upstairs and apologize to her.

Our 3 pets do better understanding hand signals.
They got to think a bit about voice commands but
they gather around us when we are talking about
stuff too. Thas mostly treat bait, we believe.

Turn the heat up in a room with the TV and they are there soon sleeping too.
They find comfort in warm, soft warm sleepy stuff and the constant comedy on TV.

As a nonpet owner, I've made a few observations.
Pets have an emotional reaction to certain sounds. If those sounds are certain words, they react to the accompanying emotion.
They are certain to make connections to sounds that are related to their well being and survival. But other sounds fulfill an emotional need as well.
I base my conclusion on those videos that show a dog pressing buttons to talk to owners.

They can also talk. Not in words, but my dogs have very distinctive barks for different situations.

"I want to go out" is different from "Let's play"

"There's a stranger out front!" is different from "Juli's here !"
absolutely they do... and like a mother with a new baby who recognises the different cries, dog owners recognise the different barks
