Do You Tire More Easily Now....

Yes I'm like the OP's sister, always been discribed as the energiser bunny because I'm absolutely full of energy...always on the go.. but since displacing me kneecap a few months ago I started staying home more to keep it rested, and now I find that even at 64 I'm tiring so much more easily than I used to

....my body seems to have got used to this break and now doesn't want to get back into the old energetic mode.. so I find that I can go all day , like today , drove from town to town, shop to shop, busy store to store... , got home made 6 trips into the house with heavy weights of shopping... put it all away, my lower back killing me by then... but I still didn't stop , just took a swig of water and started cleaning , and disinfecting the house as I do every 2 or 3 days... all the light switches, door handles, doors and door frames , pull switches, microwave oven door, fridge and freezer doors.. ... and of course all the worktops everywhere , then wash the floors... before I finally managed to sit down and have a cup of tea

My whole point being that I"m not tired after all that even tho' I haven't been out for 3 weeks, ( just sore)... but the way this will work on me will be that it will knock me for 6 tomorrow... I'll be absolutely worn out all day tomorrow instead of today , it always gets me the very next day..... so now just in less than a year I've gone from being constantly active and on the go, to someone who can only manage to do it as long as I take a rest every other day... and just to say I also take Vit B12... and have done for a long time

I have noticed it at my age even (54). It is more of a struggle to run my behind off to keep up with the time demand in the Food Service dept. I am exhausted and sore when I leave work. Too worn out to do the exercising I'm supposed to be doing to lose weight. Some days like today, body movements are slower. Younger people are having trouble keeping up and I work circles around some of them.
You young people...I tell ya !! Wow, I'm actually old enough to be your mother. I'm hearing your story from other Gen-Xers and my oldest grandson who's 31, even before he started working two jobs. Lord help you when you get to be my age (73) if you are going through that now! I feel for you Marci. 😔

It sucks. They load too much work onto one person. They really get a bang for their buck. They pay us like one person but, work us like 2. Once in a while we luck out with a quiet day but, hardly ever. It doesn't help that I have asthma and COPD which makes it even worse. One day it was so busy and I was so overwhelmed that I told them they'd have to start serving supper line without me or I was gonna end up in the ER. They let me take some inhaler and rest. We have 1200-2500 staff (not sure the exact numbers but I think 1200 is the norm) not to mention over 100 patients a day plus visitors to feed. One little thing like a spill can screw up your whole day. Everything is time sensitive so if you get behind you gotta bust a move to get caught up or someone has to help you. Don't get much help. Sometimes they're too busy too. I'm known for being on time cuz I won't allow myself to start stuff late if I don't have to. I wonder what's gonna happen as I get older. That pace is gonna get the better of me at some point. May have to cut back on days worked. Something will give eventually. But I will keep going for as long as I'm able. It's just a shame they keep pushing retirement age up more and more and there's hardly any SSI for people with low paying jobs.

All joking aside Marci..I feel bad for you. I hate that employers expect workers to do the job of two people, sometimes three! But like you say...the paycheck does not reflect that extra work. It's not fair. I have another online friend who has been going through the same thing and she's more in my age range. Sad part is she doesn't think she'll ever be able to retire. Try to take good care of yourself! ☹

I don't think I'll be able to fully retire. I will have to do something to supplement. I might see about something I actually like. Maybe something part time at the zoo or something. 67 is the age for me now. It was 70 then I got a better paying job. Too bad I can't find something that pays even more. LOL

Much more easily after mental or physical work. Coffee does not help much.
Plus my back and legs hurt, even without any strains. Hate it.
