Do you use a Library ?

I was at the local Library this morning and it struck me how lucky we are, not only to have a vast selection of books, including large print and audio books, but a computer section, all the daily papers, reference library, clean well equipped toilet facilities, and also a small lounge area with comfy settees, chairs, tables, and a drinks machine costing just 50p per drink

I was able to collect a book and meet a friend for coffee, how are the libraries in your area and do you use them ?

I have a local library 6 blocks from me, several times yearly I visit and look
at bunches of things, for a small library it is well set up and equipped. It has
a free magazine section where we can either drop of suitable magazines/books or
pic some up to take. I take advantage of this and get some preferred magazines,
books etc for some of my caregiving clients that I help out. They are so happy
when I come with the little deliveries to them :)

We though do not have a lounge area, but I would really like that ....

I was just there this morning. I love to read so go thru one or two books a week.

The library is also a great source for other resources. Movies, music CDs, copier and printer use, computers, heck my local library even gives out free Covid test. I love the library!

I'd be lost without a library! A couple of times, I tried buying new books from a bookstore. $200 for a few days' worth of reading. Yikes, no.

When I lived too far from the library, I signed up for Books by Mail.

Aside from the 12 library books beside my bed, I'm waiting for an ebook, which I'll listen to while exercising.

I use the library’s wifi to download movies and podcasts.

They even lend science stuff. I keep meaning to borrow a telescope.

Thank you for the topic, @Wren .

Wren, I love my library, I love any library. Mine is right around the corner and I've had a card there since I was five! We used to have a fabulous book club which disintegrated because of Covid. I don't think it's coming back......the librarian in charge left and all those still there are Russian speakers and would start one in that language.

We have a county library system which includes 16 individual libraries spread across the various municipalities. The library catalogue is online and I can order anything from any library and have it delivered to the one of my choice. I have two only a few minutes away. I like their DVD selection too.

Yes, "At times" when I need to print out paperwork and such, do research where I may have 3-4 windows open. Other than that, not often.

I have not been to the local library in years.

Our county library system has 43 branches, and share most of our collections with others by placing a hold, like you, to have it delivered to whatever local library you choose. I was admin. asst. at ours for ten years, and to this day, my library is my go to place about three times a week. They have kiddie programs, adult programs, tech help, monthly free movies, book clubs, and more. That is one option I would miss horribly if I ever couldn't access it.

I check out e-books all the time from the library, and watch videos on Kanopy, which is accessible with my library card. And occasionally, I check out a hard-copy book.

So, yeah, I use the library. :)
HOORAY for Kanopy!

Yes, me too with e-books. Probably 90% now.

I'll vote for every library levy, probably, and I'm really a skeptical cheapskate.

I have been a library customer all my adult life. I love books of course. 95% of the books I read are nonfiction. Can't stand spy fiction or "Secret Life of the CIA." or even crazier books like, "I was a Teenage Rock 'n Roll Alley Cat Working for the CIA in Outer Mongolia."

I prefer more realistic and more down to earth books like biography but not another book on Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe.

Yes, I do. I've used their computers and copying machine when mine has been on the blink.
And, for books, of course.

It's been going through remodeling now for well over a year, and I wish they'd hurry up and finish.
I drive by it every time I go to the ATM, and it doesn't look like anything is being done to it.
